Electro-Pop’s Poet of Pain: Me & Melancholy Releases ‘Tears In The Rain’

‘Tears In The Rain’  by  Me & Melancholy Whenever there’s a new release from Me & Melancholy , it fills us with anticipation. This time, the artist paints a compelling portrait of human vulnerability and the complexity of interpersonal relationships.  ‘Tears In The Rain’ succeeds in capturing the essence of ephemeral beauty and the pain of the inevitable, expressing it through music. The dynamics of estrangement, articulated in the lines ‘I’m not able to reach you ’ and ‘ the more I try, the further I push you away ’, reflect a tragic irony. It feels like a dance of approach and withdrawal, prompting listeners to contemplate the paradoxes that often occur in our most intimate relationships.  The artist’s signature melancholic tone conveys a plea for acceptance and an attempt to bridge the gap created by misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Musically, Peter Ehrling navigates familiar territory, once again leveraging it to his advantage by capturing the emotional depth.   ‘Tears

A Dance between Reality and Fiction: “Luz” by julakim, julakim Trio

“Luz” by julakim, julakim Trio

A dynamic and rhythmic composition that fuses rock and funk elements and adheres to a coherent structure, a structure dictated by a poem. Julakim unveils her latest work today, entitled “Luz”, and alludes to the philosophical motifs of the poem: illumination and obnubilation, which the light can engender; a dance between reality and fiction; change and transformation as well as the ramifications of acting, which evince themselves in the duality of light.
The epilogue of the song is an entreaty to perpetuate the light and revel in positive ecstasy. It is a manifestation of bliss and confidence.

We are delighted to welcome you back to our blog and we are grateful for your time in sharing the radiant light of Avant-WorldMusic with us. How did you celebrate the end of the year and what are your aspirations or wishes for 2024, if you have any?

I celebrated the close of the year by ushering in the new one with a 'sparkler,' much like how I marked the journey kick-off to the light universe bLuzLand (the new album) with the song TROP SERIEUX. It served as our starting energy, symbolically shared with my fans through sparklers. For 2024, my plan is to release a new Avant-WorldMusic song every six weeks, each representing another milestone on the journey to bLuzLand.
The light universe bLuzLand is grounded in my philosophy 'bLuz.' However, instead of approaching it in a purely intellectual and theoretical manner, I've chosen to embark on this emotional journey through songs. The poetic aspect is crucial to me, and while the lyrics convey profound messages, I want to invite everyone to immerse themselves in the diversity of my music. Amidst the current demonstrations against fascism and right-wing ideologies, we showcase our diversity as it is essential for survival. Fixed paths, often mistakenly linked with security and prosperity, lead us astray. Through my Avant-WeltMusic, I've found a means to advocate for boundlessness. The constant rhythmic changes and cultural diversity encourage flexibility and curiosity.
I am immensely excited about this journey with all of you and curious about the experiences and feelings we will share. There will be reflections and enlightenments for everyone. I hope to continue receiving feedback from you regarding the light universe 'bLuzLand.' In addition to music, there will be a map at some point that could provide us with orientation. But let's remain naive and unite our curiosity as we venture into bLuzLand.

Today marks the release of your new single “Luz,” which showcases your artistic versatility once more. What inspired this song and what elements did you prioritise in its creation?

Since the lyrics are written by Paula Toschi, my focus was on the composition of the song, starting with the analysis of the poem. Without much thought, it was clear that this would be an energetic song: rock and funk - something to dance to. The structure was predetermined by Paula's poem: 2 verses, an intense bridge with a raised finger, 2 more verses, and then a release into positivity, revolving in repetitions! Here are some philosophical considerations that I have drawn from the lines: Dual nature of light: The song plays with the idea that light is not only illuminating but can also blind. It emphasizes how what enlightens and guides us can simultaneously cloud our vision and even hurt us. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the duality of truth and illusion in life.
Change and transformation: The repeated question "Você viu o raio? Você viu que luz?" (en. "Have you seen the lightning? Have you seen that light? ) could allude to sudden changes or transformative events that people may experience. It may suggest that sometimes unexpected events or realizations have a strong impact on us, prompting self-reflection. Consequences of actions: The lines "Quem brinca com fogo pode se queimar" ("Who plays with fire can get burned" in English. ) refer to the consequences of our actions. Playing with danger or ignoring warning signs can have negative repercussions. It emphasizes the idea that we are responsible for our actions and that what enlightens us can also hurt us. I underline that with a 7/4 bar/measure in the bridge, similar to the children's taunt "nene-ne-nene-ne- nene-ne-neeee," to make the shaking and questioning simultaneously with the raised finger palpable.
In the context of the journey into the light universe of bLuzLand, this station in the song can be seen as a moment of self-reflection and recognition of consequences. It is a stage where the duality of light and its impact on the individual is contemplated while on the path to enlightenment. Since the end is a "Deixa a luz acesa que é pra todo mundo ver," it invites us to dance along in positive ecstasy. So, let’s dance!

“Luz” evokes in me the impression that it is a sequel to “Inner Light” or that it shares a common theme. Is this an intentional effect or a fortuitous coincidence? And if the former, can we expect another single that will advance the narrative?

You are absolutely correct! The sequence of the songs is far from arbitrary. Conceived as a journey to bLuzLand, providing reflections and enlightenment to each and everyone, the path is carefully composed on several levels: music genres, lyrics, and languages. But, for now, let's focus on the music. It's an energy that transcends boundaries. I'm not inclined to convey messages with words as if I possess profound knowledge or advice.
My focus is on opening new spaces and offering experiences to everyone. I appreciate the open-minded approach of stepping into the unknown without a clear destination. I refer to it as 'Sprung ins Schwarze' = a leap into the black, the unknown. As some of you may know, Germans have a saying 'ins schwarze treffen,' which means to strike home. I believe that by losing ourselves and navigating through the unknown, we can more easily reconnect with our true selves.

So far, we have created the following stations in the Light Universe bLuzLand:
• 01 TROP SERIEUX = Initial energy for the journey to bLuzLand
• 02 INNER LIGHT = Door opener and a glimpse into the past and future (Janus Moon)
• 03 LUZ = Wave-Particle Duality and the undiscovered sides of light
• 04 VERSEHEN = luminous solidarity

In this station, the focus is on solidarity and community. The protagonist of the fourth song is immersed in radiant light symbolizing solidarity and collective illumination. This station encourages viewing positive elements not only as individual strengths but also as a shared source of power capable of bringing about a collective shift in perspectives. Too often, positive aspects are pushed into invisibility out of envy, misunderstanding, or perceived threat. However, as a community, we cannot afford to let this happen!
Whenever you want to delve deeper into the lyrics or analyze the music genre, there will be more opportunities throughout the year to explore these. For now, let’s discover what we have to offer by opening up to bLuzLand. On social media I'll take you step by step, sharing some dazzling facts about each of the songs/stations. In total, there are 12 songs – so still 9 to go :)

To conclude, I would like to know what other talent you possess and value highly besides music?

Ah, the journey doesn't end with music! I've been called an 'arquetist,' a fusion of architect (my studied profession) and artist. Concept creation is my forte, a means to express myself and inspire the world to take a turn for the better.
My short films have graced festivals in Venice and Rio de Janeiro. I've taken the lead in renovating prestigious churches and museums like the Deutsches Architekturmuseum. Notably, as the sole project-leading architect, I orchestrated these transformations. Even from a distance, I steered the conceptualization, execution, and on-site management of the Scarab School in Mali via VoIP. As the president of Werkbundakademie Darmstadt, we've been the driving force behind long-standing initiatives like the photography prize 'Darmstädter Stadtfotograf*in' and the art prize 'RegionalGestalt RheinMain.' Additionally, we took the lead in bringing the World Design Capital to Frankfurt RheinMain in 2026, collaborating closely with the city officials and connecting the region.
The compelling theme 'Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a better life' was crafted by the project office designFRM gGmbH, expressly established for this purpose. And I have founded an interdisciplinary summera academy PoolPlay with artistic research on space and time for architects, musicians and dancers, bringing a harmonious blend of disciplines much like the fusion in Avant-WorldMusic.
Collaborating with fellow humans and collectively sparking positive change brings me immense joy. I am deeply passionate about challenging the status quo, advocating for diversity, and illuminating often overlooked potentials—whether from minorities or those outside conventional and heteronormative norms. My mission is crystal clear: to stand not against, but for diversity, flexibility, and joy because survival demands it. By radiating positivity, I aim to transform notions of dominance and inspire a brighter and more inclusive world.
