Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

The Saturday Interview: Agne_B

After the talented release of “Let Me Go”, we are proud to present Agne_B. We are glad that we had the chance to ask Agne_B something about her talents, influences and upcoming news. Give it a read and see who is behind the “Let Me Go” release, it is worth it.

Agne_B is ...?

Hello, I'm agne_b and I write songs for difficult feelings; however, I promise I am a lot less moody than my music (I guess that’s because I put the moodiness into the music). I hope you enjoy what you hear and also if you ever want to recommend a good game or an anime, hit me up!

Who inspired you to make music?

My life, things that happen to people around me and in the world, if I can relate to it or feel affected by it. I am an emotional writer; whenever I have a hard time or go through a difficult phase in my life and don't find it easy to talk about, I put it in a piece of music. It’s sort of a coping mechanism to me. Writing gives me a feeling of great relief as well as it also makes me feel like something good came out of the negative feelings I was going through and that it wasn't all in vain.

What is your creative process like?

Whenever I feel inspired I sit down either at a piano or pick up my bass and just try to jam it out or find a riff that I could turn into a song. I usually write lyrics and melody at the same time, recording the process on my phone and then listen back to it looking for stuff to put together and polish. Sometimes a whole song just comes out at once with little else to do (those are usually the best ones), but everything really depends on the level of inspiration on that day!

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Amy Lee from Evanescence and Meg Myers. Amy Lee would be the main one as she’s been a musical influence to me for a long time. I love how she incorporates her classical music roots into her band and also gets involved in many other projects, such as scoring films, and collaborating with other artists outside the Evanescence genre, like Lindsey Stirling. You can see her growth as an artist over the years by doing what she wants and experimenting, which is really inspiring. And I’d like to collaborate with Meg Myers as I love the raw emotion in her music and her performance style; she’d be great to perform live with, so powerful!

What is the most useless talent you have?

That is actually a difficult question, I’ve got no idea! Anything can be useful at some point. I guess if by “useless talent” you mean one of those things like making a water drop noise with my mouth, or something along those lines, I am really bad at all of them, actually... My useless talent might be being really good at being useless at useless talents (if that’s a talent at all).

What is the most useful talent you have?

That is a difficult one as well... Maybe being a good listener? I’ve had close people and near strangers disclose some very private details about their life to me, sometimes just on a whim, so it must be a talent as a lot of people find it really hard to talk to each other nowadays! It’s something that makes me really happy though as I know how hard it can be keeping things to yourself, so if I can help, I will put this "talent" to good use!

If you could change anything in the past, what would it be?

If you mean personally in regards to my life, I wouldn’t change anything as I take everything that happens, good or bad, as an experience that made me the person I am today. If I had some regrets in the past, I got over them now and just take life as it is; especially if it also means I get some inspiration for my music!

And if this question is about me being able to change anything in the world, there would be too many; but the first thing that springs to mind is the pandemic (but even that had its positives like bringing people closer and making them more appreciative of each other, so not entirely sure!)

How do you feel the Internet (especially Social Media platforms) has impacted the music business?

Oh, greatly! I feel like the music business changed so rapidly over the years! It used to be all about being signed to a label and selling CDs and now it’s more about DIY and streaming. Even though I like the fact that I can start off and do a lot of things by myself, it’s also very hard as competition is fierce; there're so many great musicians out there! So some label back-up would be nice indeed (fingers crossed!).

What’s next for you?

I am currently waiting for COVID restrictions to ease so I could film the video for “let mE GO” which I am very excited about! I am also planning the release of a 2nd single in May and full EP in late summer. There's more stuff to come, but I’m not ready to disclose them yet! (it does involve more new music though, of course, and maybe even an exciting collaboration)

What do you know about Austria?

Because of my background in classical music whenever I hear “Austria” I think of Mozart, Schubert and Haydn, to name a few; birthplace to many classical composers! Also some common knowledge probably known by most; capital city being Vienna and spoken language being German. And of course, the castles! It looks like a beautiful country that one day I’d surely love to visit. ^_^
