‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

The Saturday Interview: Sweet Jayne

Sweet Jayne

Today we present Sweet Jayne, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Dublin. We are really proud that we had the chance to ask her about music, influences, social media and her talents. So we have to say: beware, this is a must-read!

Who inspired you to make music?

When I was a small child I fell in love with the Irish band The Cheiftains and started playing the fiddle.  I grew up studying classical and Traditional Irish music.

What is your creative process like?

I love going for long walks, and music often comes to me when I'm outside.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

The Rolling Stones

What is the most useless talent you have?

Picking things up with my toes

What is the most useful talent you have?

Besides music?  Hmm... I make a good sandwich I suppose

If you could change anything in the past, what would it be?

I would have played more music for my great grandmother 'Grandma Jayne' before she died

How do you feel the Internet (especially Social Media platforms) has impacted the music business?

I feel like the internet has made it harder for musicians to earn a living, because people no longer have to buy albums and there are so many live streams available for free... there is also so much content that new music often slips under the radar.

What’s next for you?

More music!  I will be releasing another original single called "Don't Ya" in the next few months, with a music video.  It's the first time I'm working with a video production company with my original material, I'm excited, they're a Dublin based company called Gander.

I'll be putting out an EP of original songs after that! I have some other projects on the back burner as well, and I hope to record another album of Traditional Irish music in the near future.

What to you know about Austria?

I've always wanted to travel to Austria, looks like a beautiful country.  Some of my favourite composers are from there as well, Mozart, Schubert and Haydn

Why "Sweet Jayne", is there a story behind the name?

I have always loved the Lou Reed song 'Sweet Jane',  and I like to think I'm pretty sweet ;)
