Unusual and Amazing, that's ES. CHER, thanks for your time.
Who is es.cher?
I've been playing and making music for a lot of my life but have only been producing for about 8 months or somethin now. I've moved around a lotttttt throughout my life but have spent most of my life in the UK, and most of that time in Canterbury.
Who inspired you to make music?
Vegyn and SOPHIE's attitude to electronic music I find really liberating, working as a producer gives you so much freedom in terms of genre and form, their music and attitude to creating without structure or limitations inspired me cause it made me realise I could just make whatever sounded good to me and not worry about structure and rules and all that.
What is your creative process like?
I usually start with playing some chords or a riff or somethin on guitar or keys and see if something makes me feel anything until I hit something I like. Then I usually build the rest of the track around that, seeing if vocals fit usually mid way through making a song to be honest.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
From a production standpoint, Vegyn would be the producer I'd most like to work with. But Kojey Radical would be for sure the artist I'd most like to produce for and work with.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I can play the harmonica pretty well
What is the most useful talent you have?
Bein able to play the guitar most likely
If you could change anything in the past, what would it be?
Told myself to not be so bothered by what other people think
How do you feel the Internet (especially Social Media platforms) has impacted the music business?
I feel like it's been great for discovering new people who you fuck with (are inspired by*) and new music you wouldn't have heard before, it allows more people to upload their stuff and collaborate who might not have been able to before. I like how so much music is free and accessible now, but I think it's very difficult to get paid fairly through streams just how Spotify n all them companies work. The way companies capitalise off independant artists creativity always works out unfairly so I think it's a good and a bad thing but systems like that are always gonna be abused by the wrong people at the end of the day.
What’s next for you?
I have a collaborative EP with Jestyn, one of my close friends, a hip hop rapper and producer, that should be coming out soon, excited for people to hear that one for sure. Got a couple solo EPs that are unreleased just waiting for the right time, hopefully will manage to work out some live sets for thess covid dependant.
What do you know about Austria?
I can't say I know too much haha! I know Mozart was from there and I know you get the alps there, I've heard Vienna is beautiful but I've never been there myself.
