Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

The Artist: BOSOLA - "THIS TIME BUDDY, IT'S ALL ON YOU"

This Time Buddy, It’s All On You

‘This Time Buddy, It’s All On You’ wurde über einen Zeitraum von etwa 8 Jahren geschrieben.

The Interview

Who inspired you to make music?

We love loads of different artists but I guess the artists that made me want to be in bands and make music were bands like The Smiths, The Manic Street Preachers, The Stone Roses, Hundred Reasons and The Music. I just liked music I could flail around at the indie disco to. I'm not sure that has changed.

What or who inspired you to write "This Time Buddy, It's All On You"?

Musically I took inspiration from Frightened Rabbit and Meursault when writing the music. Of course you can't get away from the India inspired lead guitar lines in the chorus which reflect my love for Tomorrow Never Knows and Within You Without You by The Beatles.

Lyrically it's a song about betrayal and anger, so my many years obsessively listening to The Smiths and Morrissey helped. I guess it's got a bit of a I Am The Resurrection vibe and I remember listening to The Horrors' first album when I first wrote this so you'll probably find some influences from  'Who Can Say' in there.

What is your creative process like?

I tend to get lyrical ideas, particularly when I'm tired or sad. I get a couple of phrases and  organise them into a chorus or a verse. Once I get a melody to that I tend to fill in the gaps with a narrative. Songs give you the opportunity to write new endings to stories or write them from new perspectives.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would love to work with Bill Ryder Jones. He has a fantastic way of putting across melancholy and I think I could learn so much.

What is the most useful talent you have

...and of course your most useless talent is?

I have to say I'm a pretty good public speaker.  I'm best man at a wedding in the Summer so that will be useful.

I used to be able to inflate my stomach so it would look like I was pregnant. I ended up with a hernia. Profound stupidity.

If you could change anything in the past, what would it be?

Everything happens for a reason. But I would have bought those bitcoins in 2014.

How do you feel the Internet (especially Social Media platforms) has impacted the music business?

I mean there are good aspects of it and bad aspects of it. I can't complain - 10 years ago I would have never have known how to get in contact with a blogger let alone coordinate EP releases. It's skilled me up online and given me confidence to big up my music.

Bosola is...?

A three piece alternative rock band. We are based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, in the North East of England. We come from across the UK and Ireland. Tim (Vocals and Guitar) was born and bred in South Wales, Emma (Drums) is a Geordie and Pete (bass) is an Irish born Scouser.  The name Bosola is taken from a character in John Webster's play The Duchess of Malfi. He's this complex character who is neither or completely bad. He is basically the conscience of the play and speaks directly to the audience. I think musicians have that role today.

What’s next for you?

We release our debut studio EP as a band on the 14th June. It's called 'How Sick I Became Running From Myself' and it's available on all streaming platform and on CD from our bandcamp merch store -
