‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

We asked: Aunt. T

Last Friday Aunt.T released her first EP and we have had the chance to ask her about it. Below you can read her thoughts and comments about every song on the EP. Thanks for your time!!

The mood of the EP might sound sombre and reflective to some but to me it is a triumphant affair. It symbolises overcoming; I put it together during the lockdown years (laughs) but mostly I have battled against this pervasive doubt which has kept me at ‘almost’ creatively for a very long time (-Aunt.T-)

Die For You

This track sounds like a love song but is a much darker tale of obsession and control and the consequences of blindly following someone

Weekends Are Made for Two

The theme of loneliness has been a fascination of mine, cropping up a lot in my song writing; largely because I have felt it acutely at times. I explore it on this track as a feeling that is more desperate on the weekends

Joy is Where

A few failed romantic relationships later, I started to work out that I was responsible for my own happiness. It’s also a look at the complexities of being in a relationship but always looking for the joy within them

Should I Stay

This track asks the question should I stay or leave a relationship, eluding to the idea that to stay or leave a long term relationship can be an impossible decision… I chose to leave

Earthshakes (No Mistakes)

This track is about the fear I once had about making mistakes whilst playing live I wanted to dedicate it to everyone who makes mistakes

Hands in Prayer

I was feeling pretty lonesome when I wrote this and it reminded me of how much love I actually receive in my life but just couldn’t see it at the time. It’s reminding the listener that there are people who care for us, wishing us well behind the scenes
