Behind the Hedges: ‘Life in the Burbs’ by The Dream Chasers

‘Life in the Burbs’ by The Dream Chasers With ‘Life in the Burbs,’ Bridgette and Peter (aka The Dream Chasers) unfold the full range of their artistic creation. They take us on a journey through the suburbs, which includes not only the visible hedges and houses but also the hidden longings and dreams of their inhabitants. With a mix of melancholic reflection and life-affirming euphoria, they paint a multi-layered portrait. The musical accompaniment is as diverse as the emotions of the residents. From indie pop melodies that capture the quiet of a Sunday morning to powerful indie rock chords that reveal the hidden wildness behind the manicured facades, The Dream Chasers offer a soundtrack that both soothes and challenges the listener. The catchy riff in ‘Life in the Burbs’ acts as a musical guide that immediately captivates the listeners and takes them on an acoustic journey through the complex emotions of suburban life. It is the artistry with which this riff captures the essence

Wherever 2021 takes Pennan, he’s happy to kick it off with ‘Lit’ & ‘Cinema’ and hopes listeners might enjoy them, too. 'Planted' shall serve as the first half of a double album, with the 2nd half, 'Picked' set for release in 2022.

Mona

"Mona", Rock meets alternative Country to sound like Rock'n'Roll or simply Pennan Brae is back.

Q&A

Planted is the 3rd album (full-length) this year, are you a workaholic or was 2021, respectively the last 12 month, full of inspiration?

I think the extended isolation during the pandemic has allowed me to get some new material ready this past year. There’s always inspiration out there; it’s just good to get new music out.

What can we expect from "Planted"?

"Planted" is a throwback to 1970s rock & roll. While ‘Cinema’, the previous album, was more contemporary & 1980s & 90s-influenced, this record goes back a decade & hopefully scrubs up some of the dirt & grime of 70s rock. This album has more in common with ‘Lit’ which was released in Jan 2021. There’s 10 songs on ‘Planted’ & I hope the sequencing of songs feels right as the album unfolds.

I have had the chance to listen to "Mona", is there a true story (stories) behind or who/what was your inspiration for the song?

Well, ‘Mona’ is about pining for someone whom you feel deeply for & your soul’s just howling out for them. There is truth in the lyrics; I think we’ve all felt that way. This feeling of longing has happened more than once; hence Rhonda is introduced in the 2 nd verse.

"Mona" sounds amazing, like straight forward Rock'n'Roll with an extra touch of Country, looks like you are open to a lot of genres, isn't it?

Thanks very much for noticing that. I love country music & particularly country rock. It’s a fun, unique marriage of musical genres. So whenever a song is headed in that direction, I try to follow immediately.

Do you have a favorite track on your new album?

My favourite songs on ‘Planted’ are ‘Mona’, ‘Night Crawling’ & ‘Beckon Command’. I like how the album kicks off with ‘Space Surf Navigate’ & concludes with ‘Long Bomb Deep Calm’, which feels a bit like a rock & roll lullaby. These 2 tracks feel like they bookend the album.

Do you remember the first ever Rock song you have listened to?

My father played a lot of Eagles & CCR when I was kid. ‘Take It Easy’, ‘Lying Eyes’, ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’ & other timeless tracks. I recall my first 78-inch record was ‘Too Much Time on My Hands’ by Styx. It sounded so wicked on the record player. I used to play that song endlessly. I still have it to this day.

What's next for you?

I have a music video coming out for ‘Mona’ in September. I’d like to create more music videos for songs off the album with director Tim Cash of Far From Earth Films. ‘Planted’ is the first half of a double album. I’m currently working on the second half, called, ‘Picked’. I hope to release it in the first half of 2022. The artwork on ‘Picked’ continues on with the ‘Planted’ gardening theme. I’d love to print vinyl for it because I think it’d look great.
