My Twisted Heart

My Twisted Heart (AKA MT Heart) is a singer/songwriter and member of the creative collective Outsiders Entertainment. Born and raised in Hong Kong, My Twisted Heart’s music was originally inspired by Asian music genres, namely Canton-Pop, J-Rock and K-Pop. My Twisted Heart developed an interest in singing at an early age and he would perform cover tracks at school talent and singing contests.

Later during his College years in Ireland, My Twisted Heart officially became a member of the Outsiders and was introduced to Western music genres such as Hip-Hop, Electronic, R&B etc. Marrying Eastern and Western genres has become the DNA of his sound. His music often deals with themes of heartbreak, loneliness, and regret as these allow him to explore some of the deeper and darker emotions he has experienced.

“On the surface, this song is about an individual who feels trapped in a relationship and wants breathing space.” says My Twisted Heart - the moniker of Po Ki Ching - of his new single. “But it has another meaning to me.

It reflects my feeling towards Hong Kong – where I grew up, and where injustice was and is still happening.” A collaboration with fellow Cork artist Outsider YP, it sees someone speaking to their beloved, whether person or city, “Sinking to that bottom/You’re not dragging me down”. The pair both contribute vocals, engineering the track together.

‘idontneedyou’ is ultimately about the pain of having to leave someone - or someplace - behind, in order to take care of yourself.

The dark synthwave duo from Seattle, called Shiny Lake, creates an enchanting and seductively dark atmosphere with their new release ‘SIX’. Gloomy synthwave sounds blend with ethereal vocals to create a kind of vintage wave world that will delight genre lovers. ‘SIX’ conveys the dark despair of an individual struggling with inner battles, isolation, and pain. It expresses a strong desire for liberation and solace. The search for redemption is palpable and emphasizes the deep longing for inner peace. Post-punk, with a slight gothic touch, emphasizes the gloomy mood, which nevertheless manages to radiate, in a dark and gloomy way. Shiny Lake is definitely on the right track and, after their debut, presents another work worth listening to.

As the year draws to a close, we would like to present a few highlights, one of which is certainly the album ‘Dreaming of Daniel’ by Jerry Fish feat. MayKay, which is intended to commemorate the great Daniel Johnston (‘Hi, How Are You‘ is considered his most successful album and a classic of the American indie scene). The spirit of Daniel continues to live on and culminates in an album with 13 songs. ‘Ain't No Woman Gonna Make a George Jones Outta Me’ is just one of the songs that make this tribute album a gem. Recommended tracks include ‘The Sun Shines Down on Me,’ ‘It's Impossible,’ and ‘Living Life.’ To round off 2024, Jerry Fish feat. MayKay once again provide some fine alternative music.

#DanceNOW! Double Triangle, Carlos Ucedda - "I adore you (Double Triangle Remix)"

If the song sounds familiar to you now, we have already presented Carlos Ucedda and ‘I adore you’ once before; back then, the song was still very 80s (greetings to Luke Tangerine at this point). Together with Double Triangle, they take a step further into the 90s. You could almost say: ‘I adore you’ has arrived in the golden era of techno. The remix shows Double Triangle in top form, with good progression that keeps up the tension and simultaneously proves that, together with Carlos Ucedda, they can also capture the 90s flair magnificently and present it in the style of the 2000s.
