Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

MOVMENT

NENESBUTLER PRESENTS Music Blog SubmissionMOVMENT are an alternative rock band from Ireland. They have released 1 album, Broken Down, and 1 EP, Red Death Sessions. They will be releasing their 2nd album, Transformation, on 02 December 2021, preceded by the singles Propaganda on 24 September, and Leave Me Alone on 29 October. Movment are more dark than light, more strong than weak, more direct. Movment make observations on life and living. They mean what they say.

The previous single PROPAGANDA explores ideas around the challenges of modern living and argues “There is another way” What is truth? What is fake?
There is a divergence in society. The new album Transformation, due in December 2021, explores this situation. We are bombarded with information, opinions, viewpoints, and words.

We drown in ideas, in solutions, in propaganda. There needs to be a TRANSFORMATION from where we are now. Although guitars and bass are at the heart of their sound, it is hard to ignore the electronics that have infiltrated Movment's core.
The new album from Movment is available from 02 December 2021. It explores What We Are. Movement have been through it before. They examine What Way Should It Be. Their time is NOW! There is nothing we cannot do! All will be revealed in December 2021 with the release of Album Number 2 - TRANSFORMATION

Leave me alone

"Leave Me Alone, I am Dangerous, Leave Me Alone, I am Vicious, Leave Me Alone".
"Leave me alone" by MOVMENT a bit more darker and definitely the next step for the band or the warning and admonishing scream from the underground by the megaphone called MOVMENT.

Q&A

Movment is...?

NENESBUTLER PRESENTS Music Blog Submission
MK: We have been making music together for as long as I can remember. I started on drums initially but soon became the singer. Our first band, Raw Novembre, was a jam with some friends, and we recorded some demos, before recording our first album Disturbed. We would make 1 more album, Come In, We're Open, then we drifted away from our band mates. Myself and Kevin continued to make music, after releasing a final album of music by Raw Novembre, My Bones, we decided to use the name Movment for the songs we wrote. I played drums and sang, Kevin played guitar, bass and some keyboards/synths.

KK: We eventually started recording an album in 2010, and the first Movment album was released in 2012, Broken Down.

MK: We have always written songs together. But behind the song writing is a great love of music. We are music fans at the end of the day.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

KK: We have a similar taste in music, but not completely the same. There is some overlap, but we do like a variety of genres. Once the music is sincere, and honest, and moves me, I will give it a chance. It is hard to tie it down to a few bands, but if I had to it would be Joy Division, Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, Fugazi.. but there are countless others. I like Sparklehorse quite a bit.

MK: Yeah, musically we have similar tastes, rock, some metal, indie, punk, post punk, etc.I like Iron Maiden, New Model Army, and Nine Inch Nails, but there are lots of other bands that I listen to.

KK: Also I try and listen to new bands, some are old, some are just starting. I'm listening to Amyl & The Sniffers, The Stranglers, and Gojira at the moment, but also Tricot from Japan, Protomartyr, Marie Davidson, Ed Borrie, and so much more. Life and White Reaper are 2 new bands on my playlists. And Vox Low, I really like these.

...and especially to the song "Leave me alone"?

MK: We have a dark side to our music, and our interest in metal, alt rock, gothic and synth bands have all added to the mix, and this feeds into our song writing.

The Song creates this amazing Underground meets Post Punk meets Rock atmosphere, are those your favorite genres?

KK: yes, that is not far off from what we sound like. We were definitely more punk in Raw Novembre, but we are less so now.

MK: We only use the term post punk to differentiate from the 77 style punk bands, but really for me, it is all the same attitude, just being yourself and creating music that means something to you.

KK: Yeah music needs to be in a category, I suppose that is necessary to an extent. We are a bit of a mixed bag really.

What is your creative process like?

KK: We have always jammed together, and usually have lots of pieces of music. Sometimes these are developed more and become songs, sometimes they don't. We are always likely to have lots of jams recorded. So for this album we had about 25 pieces of music, which we narrowed down to 16 songs, and eventually chose 10 for the album. We have lots of demos.

MK: yeah, we just churn them out, and the best ones rise to the top, well the ones we think are the best ones!

When do you decide that a song is ready for a release?

KK: As I said, some demos just stick in your mind, and those are the ones we tend to work on. We have a good system of recording and working on improving songs. It has been a long process getting our 2nd album out, but I feel that we have a good setup now and it will be easier to finish songs, and we may release new material soon enough, if we feel the songs are working.

MK: yeah, the current album was finished before the summer, so we are ready to start recording some new songs.

Do you remember your first ever self written song?

MK: Yeah, for Movment, it was probably Wake Up, which had been around for a while, before we recorded it. And for Raw Novembre it was probably Violence.

KK: Yeah, probably Wake Up was our first movment song.

What's your most useful talent besides music?

KK: I'm into the web and computers, so I am interested in music technology and synths. And there are some amazing new hardware and software instruments available at the moment, with loads new ones being released monthly.. I like Maschine, and I have been useing AKAI stuff too. But I do like guitars, especially using them with synths/keyboards for atmosphere.

MK: Yeah, but at the end of the day, all songs can be played with a guitar and vocals, so the synths/guitars add to the song. And drums and bass are the backbone. It's a great time for anyone that wants to write songs or create music. It is much easier to do this now.

KK: I think we both are interested in the creative side of songwriting, coming up with something unique to us. It is not easy, but we try to be innovative, if we can.

What was the first ever Pop/Rock/... song you listened to?

KK: I've always been a fan of Joy Division, since an early age, but I probably heard the Beatles or Rolling Stones first. Or maybe something from Top of the Pops.

MK: I have been a fan of metal for a long time, especially 70s/early 80s, but there are some amazing metal bands around today, and they are almost all excellent musicians..

What do you prefer, a live gig or a studio session?

KK: At the moment we have not played too many gigs, but this may change. We do like writing songs, but perhaps next year, 2022, as Covid restrictions ease, we may do some live shows. Our focus has been on studio work, so we will have to put together a live show that works. I see a massive difference between studio work and live. So we would have to work out the best way to perform our songs live.

MK: Yeah I'd like to do some shows. Hopefully that will happen next year.

What’s next for you?

MK: We will begin writing a new album over the next few months, and perhaps plan some live shows. We will play live in Ireland first, and see after that if there are opportunities to play live in the UK or Europe later next year.

KK: yeah, sounds good to me...
