‘ICU’ by Luke Tangerine & Kate Pending Luke Tangerine's output this year has been enormous, and he is not going to miss the opportunity to top it up just before Christmas. ‘ICU’ is the name of the new electro meets house music banger, which is almost unbeatable in terms of elegance. In this collaboration between Luke Tangerine and Kate Pending , both are in top form. One reason for this is certainly that both are masters of their craft and don't think in terms of genre boundaries. ‘ICU’ manages to get stuck in my ear canals immediately, and not just because of the 80s/90s tendency that is definitely there. It's the combination that creates this. Synth aesthetics combined with a drum machine that plays up its retro charm and an irresistible bassline make for a soundscape that may sound a little vintage, but definitely has the strengths of the present. In this fascinating soundscape, in which there are so many inconspicuous details to discover, Kate Pending seems to fe...

"Sun" by Tired All the Time
Tired all the Time
Tired all the Time (a.k.a. TATT) are an experimental rock group from Washington, DC. TATT music blends a range of genres such as post-punk, indie pop, noise rock, neo-psychedelia and sludge. The group is known for appropriating language and aesthetics from the corporate medical and pharmaceutical industries as somewhat of an anti-theme. Their lyrics often explore subjects related to sociogenic anxiety, societal disparities and future uncertainty.
TATT have been active since 2017, performing extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic regions and Eastern United States. TATT has shared the stage with notable acts FEEDER, Zen Mother, and Your 33 Black Angels. Their album, BE WELL, garnered a Harmony Award for Best Music Video for "Bone Dry," and received finalist nominations for the 2019 Washington Area Music Awards for Best Punk (Post-punk) Band and Best Punk (Post-Punk) Album categories.
"TATT’s brand of dystopian pop-punk is as quirky as it is contagiously poignant." -- Geoff Stoner, Tiny Mixed Tapes
Q&A
Tired all the Time are...?
Tired All The Time is a trio of DMV area musicians who have been writing and playing music about the modern world for the past 6 years. While we each come from a fairly eclectic set of musical styles, we felt that focusing our efforts towards something more approachable would be both a disciplining and fulfilling endeavor.
This origin does belie our name however as most of what we write about pertains to the work, hopelessness, technology, etc. that make each of us Tired Every Day.
Who inspired you to make music in general...and especially to the song "Sun" also "The Board" was a bit more Rock influenced, now with "Sun" you created a great Synth atmosphere, is this your new direction ... or just one of your many "genre faces"?
Top of the list for me would be Faith No More or Boris as we are all fans of bands that can put out a big variety of material while still having a cohesive sound underneath.
The contrast between Sun and The Board is very much an expression of this preference and we have been very conscientious in our writing and culling process to ensure that we keep things fresh.
What is your creative process like?
Each of us have fairly robust musical backgrounds and so it's not unusual for members to show up to rehearsal with a new song that is 75% completed.
From there it's just a matter of feeling out and tailoring the song to our liking. This is not our only trick however as we are just as likely to build a song from the ground up when practicing as a group (Sun and The Board are examples of this specific process).
When do you decide that a song is ready for a release?
When the algorithm says so.
What's your most useful talent besides music?
Putting in an IV
Helping you get a free phone from the government
Resenting Outlook invites
What was the first ever Pop/Rock/... song you listened to or remember on?
Call me Al by Paul Simon
What do you prefer, a live gig or a studio session?
We go both ways.
