‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

"Coat in the Hallway" by The Confederation

The Confederation is an ongoing project.

The Confederation

The Confederation is an ongoing project involving individuals with a diverse range of musical styles, experiences, influences and skills. The Confederation is a soul, pop, rock, jazz, funk, fusion blending uptempo, downtempo, dance, trance, old school, and neo soul.
A melting pot of musical dna fusing styles from the golden past, vibrant present and exciting future of music.

Coat in the Hallway

"This is an original song with a dark, sexy and dramatic vibe. For lovers and for hopers.", war zu lesen.
"Coat in the Hallway" by The Confederation dark and sexy vocals, dramatic vibes and groovy as hell!!! Im Anschluss gibt's noch einen kurzes Interview mit Simon Jolly, seinerseits Keyboarder wie auch Arrangeur, oder kurz Mastermind der Band.

Q&A

The Confederation are...?

A collective music project bringing unique sonic tones, textures and crossing over genres. The Confederation is a melting pot of musical dna fusing styles from the golden past, vibrant present and exciting future of music.

Who inspired you to make music in general ...and especially to the song "Coat in the Hallway"?

Inspiration comes from a wide variety of influences from downtempo trip hop Massive attack through Neo soul such as Morcheeba and electro fusions such as GoldfrappWe have a deep love for the soul and funk of Sly and the Family Stone, Prince and classic Soul and Motown
'Coat' was born out of the classic soul influences where an emotion and feeling was central to the groove.

What is your creative process like and was it different for this song?

Simon Jolly, keyboards, The Confederation
Usually a song starts in a chord progression and melody, which is the backbone to the composition. It has to stand on it's own first usually with a simple piano or guitar. The arrangement and production will be quite freeform as we enjoy stretching the sonic texture.
The vocals are always very central with close attention to harmony arrangement. I am very fortunate to have worked with two amazing female vocalists on this track. Jill Mccracken and Lynz Crichton. I knew they would sound amazing together and was really thrilled with both performances.

What's your most useful talent besides music?

I am a graphic designer so creative work is where my heart is really.

How would you describe 2021 in a sentence?

A more positive year in many ways and certainly making us all re-evaluate our lives in the new landscape.

What was the first ever Soul/Jazz/Funk/etc. ... song you listened to or remember on?

As a child I was always exposed to a lot of beautiful classic soul from way back. Minnie Riperton has always been a big favourite of my parents so I guess "Loving you' would be one of the first I can remember.

You are from Coventry, how would you describe the music scene there?

There is a great fun and eclectic attitude to music in Coventry and the UK midlands.

Do you remember your first ever self-written song?

Oh haha I used to write quite randomly and a bit dark as a youth I think the first was about a crocodile death roll!

What’s next for you?

Just continue to explore the possibilities of sound and have fun.
