From Digital Scams to Musical Triumphs: The Story Behind Single Audio Channel’s ‘My Beloved Friend’

“My Beloved Friend” by Single Audio Channel As we lie in the grass, gazing up at the vast expanse of the sky, a wave of Indie-Brit-Pop melodies envelops us, transporting us back to the genre’s golden era. It’s a moment that teeters on the edge of sentimentality, where one could easily get lost in the longing to experience that groundbreaking sound for the very first time. Amid the verdant tapestry of sound, a sanctuary emerges in the form of Single Audio Channel’s inaugural anthem, “My Beloved Friend.” This composition transcends mere auditory addition, it heralds the renaissance of Indie and BritPop’s core ethos. The track distinguishes itself immediately, adorned with guitar riffs that not only strike a chord of recognition but also exude a profound veracity. A sophisticated symphony, a nuanced nod to the past, yet boldly imprinted with the here and now. The riffs are not mere vibrations; they are the very essence of Indie spirit, timeless, yet refreshingly genuine. The inspiration

Awaken

"Awaken" by ElectroMagneticPulse psychedelic Rock meets Electronic meets esoteric meets you.

Who inspired you to make music in general and especially to the song "Awaken"?

I was always inspired by the music of MGMT, Ok Go, Midnight Juggernauts and Muse to name a few. The mix of psychy space-rock and off-kilter electronic sounds got me excited but I never picked up an instrument and I always just assumed I couldn't make anything myself.
The emergence of DIY bedroom-rock during the 2010's got me excited and confident enough to pick up drumming, strum a guitar, buy a synth to start playing around and finally give it a crack.
Been jazzed about playing and production ever since! I think 'Awaken' and this album definitely comes from my sentimental love and connection to the 'Black Holes and Revelations' era of Muse though.

How long do you normally spend on finding the right sounds for a song?

There's some tracks on this album where I recorded demo vocals straight off my iPad and then later went to record properly on my mic but for whatever reason the original demo take sounded better.
I have heaps of moments like that where I just roll with it if it sounds good but in contrast, at other points I can certainly cycle and get precious about my sounds and tinker on things for an eternity!

"Awaken" is the opener on your new Album, how would you describe "Awaken/Reset"?

"AWAKEN / RESET" is a concept album that crystallises our current juncture in time and space - a splitting prism of reality left in the wake of catalyst, divinely birthing a revelatory ‘coming-of-age’ for the collective.
Thematically, it puts a spotlight on the collective shadow, bubbling our fears to the surface incited by broken systems, profiteering and a technologically driven erosion of natural life whilst juxtaposing it with an emerging light dawning through a culturally harmonic resonance of people healing with unconditional love.
Painting a picture of potential paths ahead, it leaves it to the listener to decide what they wish upon the world as we shift into a new paradigm. Sonically, it's spacey arpeggiated synths meet grungey guitar riffs, punchy rhythms and bombastic bass-lines juxtaposed to airy, hypnotic vocal melodies that layer the dystopic and utopic soundscapes.

What is your creative process like?

Sometimes ideas just come flowing out of nowhere and I need to drop everything I'm doing and let it all out in one session and at other times I'd record an 8 or 16 bar loop and just listen to it for ages on repeat until I'm inspired again.
I consider my creative process to be something akin to 'channelling' in a flow-state. I let everything that comes through breathe on it's own and trust that it'll all fall into place.

What's your most useful talent besides music?

To be honest, I'm a video professional first and foremost so I've been doing freelance directing, filming and editing for over a decade which is why I thoroughly enjoy making all of my own video content for my music.
I also come from a painting and illustrating background from when I was a kid (something that also has come in handy when I'm making an album cover...)

How would you describe 2021 in a sentence?

A boiling crucible about to overflow.

What was the first ever Pop/Electro/etc. song you listened to or remember?

My mum introduced me to the music of the Bee Gees when I was really young and I remember she had these old cassette's she gave me so I'd listen to tracks like 'Night Fever and 'How Deep Is Your Love'. Really digged that falsetto and groovy 70's disco haha...

Do you remember your first ever self-written song?

Yeah I remember I recorded a track for an ex-girlfriend's birthday card once upon a time, long before I properly made music. It was a short and rough minute long thing which was just me singing accompanied by synth.

What’s next for you?

I'm working on a music video for 'AWAKEN' over the next month. Ive also got a couple of collabs I'm working on with some artist friends too but other than that I'm not sure yet...
I released two albums last year and I loved the whole process so I can only imagine I'll work on a new project again in the coming months. Would love to do an electronic score or something more ambient and progressive maybe? We'll see...
