SEAFEI
Musician and producer Seafei reveals his admiration for both Eastern and Western traditions through ambient tracks and laid-back beats. Seafei was first inspired by the technical and musical power of John Frusciante.
Gradually via Odesza through to the sounds of Jai Wolf, Fakear, Bonobo and Kasbo, his individual organic style has evolved through his influences and travels, both across the globe and through the world of music.
Inspired by the diverse cultures of Asia & the Middle East, he weaves a multitude of sounds from Erhu samples to traditional vocal chanting into his esoteric compositions. Ancient influences are fused with modern electronic melodies.
Home
Was erwartet einen? "Home" by SEAFEI or the storytelling of sounds!!!
Q&A
What or Who was your inspiration for your latest single "Home"?
The inspiration behind this track was to try and capture the feelings of returning home after a long period away. Lost of people have been stuck away from family of the past few years including myself so I wanted to try and put that into music.
You are known for your impressive soundscapes, how much time do you normally spend on it till it's done?
It really varies, I tend to start with a chord progression I like and then gradually build it up from there with more layers. I’ve been trying to add as many natural and organic sounds as possible into my latest tracks, especially on the percussion side.
Are you doing the mix and mastering work by yourself?
The mastering on this track was done by Banyan Music, the guys are great and also offered a lot of support to help get this mix in the right place.
When can we expect a full album release, are there any plans for it?
I think for now I’m just going to stick to single releases, most people tend to listen to music in playlists these days anyway rather than full albums.
When do you say/decide that a song is ready to go (for a release)?
Once I feel happy with the composition, I’ll usually send it to some other musical friends in my network for feedback, points for improvement.
I try not to keep fiddling with a track for too long otherwise you get to the point where its just never finished!
The Cover is different from the pre-releases, new year - new art?
I think the picture is still the same but we just changed the colour slightly to make it more eye catching.
The year 2021 is over, how would you describe it in one sentence?
Generally rather uneventful!
Do you remember your first ever self-written song?
Unfortunately yes, I was probably about 15 and it was an awful song I wrote on the guitar for a girl I liked (of course!)
What’s next for you?
Currently working on a few new tracks with the aim to have the next one released in a few months.
