‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Fly The Nest

Dublin native Fly the Nest (Stephen Cooper) started playing music at a young age, performing in various bands. Last year he started solo project Fly the Nest, under which he writes and releases his own music. Stephen also writes for sync licensing, and says that writing for film and TV has opened up another facet of his creativity.
It’s helped him find his sound, which he calls “cinematic rock.” The project also encompasses Stephen's time spent on the pub circuit in Scandinavia. Stephen now spends his time between Ireland and Denmark. The name Fly the Nest came from travelling and moving on from a previous musical journey to the one he’s currently on.

Say Hello

Thanks for your time!

Q&A

Fly The Nest is...?

Fly the Nest is the musical alias of Stephen Cooper from Dublin but and he is based in Denmark. Primarily writing for sync licensing companies, he still releases his own personal favourites from his large back catelogue.

Who inspired you to make music in general ...and especially to the song "Say Hello"?

Passion for writing music came in his early teen years, being in an instrumental band playing electric guitar then proceeded to start singing at the age of 18 where he really got his teeth into lyric writing.
Influenced by array if band and artist over the years from Metallica to Damien Dempsey and from Catfish & the Bottlemen to London Grammar. Say Hello was penned in 2017 but now is the right time to release it.

What is your creative process like and was it different for this song?

Usually the same process , guitar in hand with and idea in mind , singing and playing until something formulates with the mood im going for, the music and lyrics come in line with eachother at the same time.

How would you describe 2021 in a sentence?

Tough year for every musician but a good productive year of writing and recording.

...and what's next for you?

Continuous writing but no plans for any original shows unfortunately until the world gets back to normal
