"We should dance" by Jermaine Coles
Jermaine Coles
As a native to the mountains of Roanoke, Virginia, Jermaine Coles has cultivated a signature sound with influences by music genres Folk, Gospel, and R&B. In 2019, he had a thought concerning his purpose on earth. He stated, "I've achieved much, but the one thing that I felt was incomplete was the recording of the songs that were written in my heart through life experiences."
It was then that he decided to produce an EP along with the composition talents of musicians Sam West, Kaio DeSouza, and Sean Mason, Douglas Andrew, and James Acampora. The inspiration behind the songs came from a previous relationship that resulted in infidelity and forgiveness.
The music project then evolved into the storyline and soundtrack of the 2022 short film entitled, "New Life.”
We should dance ("New Life" Original Short Film Soundtrack)
"A teacher who loves to tell stories, using the film to get the message across.", so eine Beschreibungen über sich selbst.
New Life" welcher eben erschien. "We should dance" by Jermaine Coles auf alle Fälle hörenswert wie auch sehenswert. Was Jermaine inspirierte Musik zu machen, sein Talent neben der Musik oder was als nächstes ansteht erfährt ihr im nachfolgenden "Q&A Part". Thanks for your time!
Q&A
Jermaine Coles is...?
I am first a teacher who loves to tell stories, using the film to get the message across. This is probably because visual learning is how I personally retain information. The talents of singing, acting, producing, etc just enhance the story being told.
Who inspired you to make music in general?
As a singer, I’m always listening to music or humming a tune, most times without even realizing it. There were several times when I attempted to write a song in the past, but I usually would stop after completing the chorus or one verse. In 2018, I felt compelled to finish a song in it’s entirety after receiving a revelation about using my God given talents to the fullest while I’m still alive. Life is short. It was then that I created the songs , finding inspiration from a past relationship to write the lyrics.
What's the story behind your song "We should dance", respectively the whole project/soundtrack "New Life", what can we expect from the Film and especially the Music?
We should dance was written as a reflection of the good times that I had within that last relationship. The newness of getting to know someone, having butterflies, and dancing together at a club was the memory which fueled that song.
Likewise, the other songs on the soundtrack were inspired by different moments within my past relationship. In essence, the songs formed the storyline of the short film, and each song represents a decade in time. What's in your opinion the most time intensive part of "writing a song"?
The most intensive part of writing a song, in my opinion, would be the creation of the lyrics. Finding certain words that flow together or that rhyme can be challenging.
At this moment what would be your "All time Top 3 Songs"?
There are too many great songs that have been created, so I tend to classify top songs by genre:
Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You” for pop music.
Richard Smallwood’s “Total Praise” for Christian music.
Prince’s “Purple Rain” for rock and roll.
What is your most useful talent besides music?
Besides music, one my most useful talents is producing. I went to school for business management, and always been drawn to leadership roles. I love to see other people use their talents and gifts, so as a producer, I bring people together to create.
What’s next for you?
My next project will be a Bible series in documentary shorts/ travel vlog style. The main focus will be on archeological discoveries that give creditability to some of the Bible stories.
