‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

"Settle down" by Liam Dutch

Liam Dutch

Liam Dutch

... is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who creates authentic, often heartfelt and definitely catchy, indie-pop songs. Influenced by the classic songwriters of previous generations - such as Kurt Cobain and Ian Curtis - Liam Dutch’s sound is immediate, endearing and likened to Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys at his most poignant.
After achieving success in the London-based band Dead Natives (who had tracks featured on both Soccer AM and BBC Radio as well as playing live shows with The Sherlocks), Dutch now resides in China where he writes, records and performs his solo material.

Settle down

"...It originally came from a conversation I overheard in a pub...", lässt uns der Künstler.
"Settle down" by Liam Dutch, the sound of bittersweet memories, which are lost somewhere in reality. Im Anschluss gibt's, wie meist,  einen kurzen Q&A Part wo man ein wenig mehr über Liam erfahren kann.

Q&A

Liam Dutch is...?

... a British-born multi-instrumentalist and songwriter currently living in China.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

I’m influenced by a lot of different music, but definitely bands like Arctic Monkeys, Joy Division, The Verve, and The Clash had a profound effect on me.

"Settle down" sounds amazing, what or who was your inspiration?

Thank you! Well, it started with overhearing a conversation in the pub. I think someone said ‘let’s get married buy a house’ kind of sarcastically, that line stuck with me and it grew from there. Once I had that line it sort of expanded from that.

As a singer/songwriter, what's in your opinion the hardest part concerning "songwriting"?

It comes quite naturally to me, and I obviously love it. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating, like almost finishing a puzzle but there’s a missing piece…. Then months later you find it down the back of the sofa during a spring clean.

What can we expect from your forthcoming EP?

Big riffs, catchy hooks, and a lot of noise.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Alex Turner all day. Also, Mick Jones from The Clash.

At this moment what would be your "All time Top 3 Songs"?

Right at this very second in time, it would probably be

1. Joy Division – She’s Lost Control
2. The Verve – On Your Own
3. Arctic Monkeys – Dance Little Liar

What’s next for you?

Well, the EP is pretty much finished. I’ve got some recording sessions booked for next month and then it’s moving cities and playing full band shows.
