Some days ago we have had the chance to
talk with The IDK's about their future, talents or their inspiration. The Band is
based in Essex and they are
one of the most promising acts in these days. So here they are, read something about The IDK's and
don't forget, whenever you have the chance to see them live, take it!
The IDK's are...?
The IDK's are a band, we are nostalgia, we are excitement, we are the new Rock'n'Roll and we are what makes your day better. Not in a cocky way. Our music will be in your heads for the next 2 - 5 minutes and in that time, we just want to relieve you from any stress or shit the modern-day world brings. Music is escapism for a lot of people and even if its 2 - 5 minutes we want to bring happiness to people for the whole time they are listening.
Our music is what I would call Stadium Rock. Our music sounds best played as loud as possible. We sound massive and our songs bring goose bumps and that power music should make you feel. We believe we are currently the best band in the UK and we stand by that. Once we get records out and play more gigs people will be able to see why. We are not even close to our peek yet.
Who inspired you to make music in general?
Mix of artists Oasis, Foo Fighters, Blur. The Beatles, The Wombats, The Strokes, Stereophonics, Muse, Verve, Nirvana, Queen. There are just too many to mention.
None of us really come from musical families, so we inspire ourselves in a way. Music is a passion born from ourselves. We openly admit to not being the best at our own instruments, but when we come together, we are just utter magic. We are greater than the sum of our parts as Aristotle once said.
What can the audience expect from your live gigs?
A massive sound, big anthems, great chorus', great tunes, lively atmosphere, a good time and a good laugh. We are all about creating good times and wanting people to make the best memories. We have been at gigs and they last with us forever. To be able to do that for other people is what it means to us. Without an audience there is no us!
When and where are your next gigs?
Are next gig was due to be this weekend (1st May) at Coda, but had to pull out due to Covid. So, our next gig for now is the 22nd June with Unsigned. Details for the gig are still being discussed.
We will likely have many gigs in between then and now, so the best place to find out about upcoming gigs is to follow us on Instagram and twitter on @idks_the . We constantly post about upcoming gigs and people can easily keep track of us on there.
Are there any plans for a recording session?
We have recently had a few recording sessions and are trying to iron out a few issues with our tracks, so we are hoping to have a couple of singles out soon. If not, we will be back in asap to get some records out, because the people need to hear what we have. We just need to make sure we get it right before getting it out, but trust me it will be HUGE!
You are from Essex, how would you describe the music scene there?
Essex has an ok music scene, but nothing like the scene in other parts of the country. Don't get me wrong some of the artists and bands in Essex are incredible, but most places are just your usual clubs and bars.
That being said Essex does have some very good venues in Hole in the Wall - Colchester, Three Wise Monkeys - Colchester, CODA - Colchester, Bassment - Chelmsford, The Edge - Basildon and The Crown - Hornchurch to name a few.
They have been a home to us for many gigs and we cannot wait to repay the favour once we are big time and can pack them venues out. As we never forget people who have done us a favour in the past.
What are your "All time Top 3 Songs"? in this second, right now?
We'd have to go for "Oasis - Live Forever", I know it's an obvious one but it's not just because of Oasis it's about what that record did for Oasis, how it helped immortalise them and what it means to me and many people. It's been dedicated to so many people over the years and the meaning for Live Forever is what I want to bring to every single one of our fans out there! live life and live it well. you only get one, lets enjoy it!
Next record we would go for is "Foo Fighters - Everlong" Foo Fighters and Nirvana are a huge influence on us as a band. This song is absolutely massive and without the Foo fighters and Everlong and its inspiration we may not have even been a band.
And lastly "Blur - Charmless Man" although we are not a huge fan of pianos in Rock Bands (Aritc Monkeys fault), this song is so close to us. Not only are Blur a band from Essex, but from this song you can tell they lived the same lives as us.
We feel as bands we are kindred spirits. The whole song is about a man and his friends who all pretend to be something they are not. In a world where this is common place, but most especially in Essex, we can relate whole heartedly. We as a band are as real as they come. Our music is real, the words we sing are real and most importantly we are authentic people.
Which is hard to be when you are surrounded by fakery in Essex. As well as often playing in The Good Mixer a lot, this brings us closer to this band and they have to get a mention in this list!
What are your most useful talents besides music?
We literally don't have any other talents. Like we said we are not even the best at our own instruments, but when we come together we just make it happen. Just like everyone else, we have no special talents, we are not special, we are not great, we are not rich.
We are just the same working class average joes like everyone else. We just love the same music and come together to make the best music you have ever heard. Soon to be the biggest band in the UK. Just you wait and see.
