The Fear of Omnipresent Observation: ‘The Crawling Eye’ by The Silence Industry

‘The Crawling Eye’ by The Silence Industry On this very Friday, we whisk you away into the sublime yet shadow-laden realm of Goth Rock, where the heart of Post-Punk beats incessantly. The Silence Industry has recently set a benchmark with ‘The Crawling Eye’ that other artists will find difficult to surpass in the foreseeable future. Endowed with an impressive back catalog,  The Silence Industry approaches a topic of grave seriousness in their latest release. The track addresses omnipresent surveillance, shedding light on its profound implications as well as the personal apprehensions it evokes.   Musically, Graham Jackson creates a scene of distressing perfection, where elements of Death-Rock leave us breathless and the fear of omnipresent observation becomes palpable. Driven by a dark Post-Punk aura, Graham rises with a performance at the microphone that recalls memories of Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke). The artist not only succeeds in maintaining the tension for nearly seven minutes b

Q&A Today: Kingfisher ("Maybe not")

Kingfisher from left to right: Affe, Julian, Nicholas

Kingfisher

... is a modern indie-rock project based in Uppsala (Sweden) and founded in 2019. Guitars and lead vocals by Julian E Lozano (Colombia), Drums by Nicholas Magnolfi (Italy) and Bass by Affe Kihlberg (Sweden). Fierce but melancholic. Upbeat but mellow. Nostalgic but hopeful. Arrogant but sweet. Sweet arrogance. Real but mystical. Magic reality.

Kingfisher are...?

It is Julian E Lozano in guitars and lead vocals, Nicholas Magnolfi in drums, and Affe Kihlberg in bass. We are quite international. Julian is Colombian and Swedish. Nicholas is Italian and British. And Affe is Swedish and Finnish.
Kingfisher was founded in 2019 and it's based in Uppsala, a student city of about 200.000 inhabitants, the fourth largest city in Sweden. One of Kingifsher's values is to pursue a music career in an environment friendly way. For doing so, a pledge has been written and can be found in https://www.kingfisherse.com.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

Hundreds of artists. Kingfisher sounds like indie-rock but it is an actual blend of different genres. Being from Colombia, Julian takes much of the melancholy and song structure from old school salsa of Latinamerica, such as Hector Lavoe, Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Richie Ray, Papo Lucca, Willie Colon. From the pop and rock space, the main influences are The Strokes, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, The Cure, Metallica and Michael Jackson.

What's the story behind your latest song "Maybe not", respectively what was your inspiration?

One day, Nicholas got a drum sample pad. He was happy with his new toy. He came up spontaneously with a beat out of his comfort zone. When that happens, Julian normally steps in and ideas start spurring. Because Julian is normally out of the comfort zone for Nicholas. That is the zone where they both actually meet, or... Maybe Not.

What's in your opinion the most time intensive part of "writing a song"?

It varies from song to song. But lyrics are a recurring challenge.

At this moment what would be your "All time Top 3 Songs"?

Love Yourself II by Beach Youth
Walk On by Killer Cashew, and
Across the 110th Street by Bobby Womack.

What's your most useful talent besides music?

Drink several liters of water every day.

What’s next for you?

Keep releasing music very regularly.
