‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Q&A Today: Mojo X

Mojo X

Brighton (UK) based DIY aficionado Mojo X channels a trailblazing path between EDM genres with a poignant, blues-influenced electronic sound.
Debuting in 2018 with the single "Gimme Your Love", Mojo X is a truly independent musical artist, working completely outside the industry and 100% self-supported

Mojo X is...?

... a Brighton UK-based solo producer, channeling a trailblazing path between breakbeat, indietronica and dystopian lofi with a poignant, blues-influenced electronic sound.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

I’ve made music for as long as I can remember. One of the first artists I got into was Jimi Hendrix. I became obsessed. The noises he made sounded like no other kind of music. It was magical. I wanted to make my own magic.

Your latest single "Jasmine" sounds great, I would call "Avant-Garde meets the Summer for an Experimental Jam Session", how would you describe your song, what's the story behind it?

I had spent a lot of time producing an album. It was involved and intense. I wanted to rediscover a sense of fun with my music making. Jasmine was the result. It’s jazzy, funky, upbeat... a mishmash of different styles. Big beats mashed with lofi vibes.

What’s your creative process?

Making Jasmine, I started playing around with the vocal sample and built the rest of the track from that. I got a good groove going and the rest of the track fell out of that first sample.
I’m making a lot of music on laptops nowadays, rather than in the studio. I'm doing a lot more producing using Ableton, letting tracks build organically rather than designing them up-front.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

A lot of people who aren’t alive anymore. Of those alive, maybe The Chemical Brothersthey were ground-breaking in their time and have a dynamic, layered sound.
As a producer, I’d want to sample Gregory Porter. He's a modern artist that evokes the greats, from the Rat Pack to Nat King Cole.

What are your "All time Top 3 Songs", right now, in this second?

Where Is My Mind? - The Pixies
When The Music’s Over – The Doors
Simply Beautiful – Al Green

What’s next for you?

Look out for another couple of songs coming out soonKombucha on 28 May, Oolong on 28 June. Together with Jasmine, they form a Chinese Tea Trilogy! Followed by an album of lofi tracks later in the summer.
