‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Sam Rainbird - Banjo/Mandolin
Frederick Rainbird - Accordion/Vocals
Micah Lambert - Electric Guitar
Bailey Landeg - Bass Guitar
Liam Landeg - Drums

Who inspired you to make music in general?

We've come from varied backgrounds, but we all have been inspired somewhat by Celtic rock/punk bands. Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are at the top of our list.

A 7-piece band means seven opinions, ideas, ... how do you manage to reconcile this "variety of creativity"?

It can be hard at times to reconcile creative differences with so many cooks in the kitchen, but fortunately we are all very easy going, so compromise is never difficult to achieve. We do, however, have fairly similar musical interests, so it's never a big issue (yet, haha)

How would you describe your EP "Mutiny" for our readers/listeners in two or three sentences?

Celtic rock, with elements of punk and pop. We were once described as the bastard offspring of Green Day, The Living End and Mumford & Sons haha!

What is your creative process like?

Varied! All of the members have input and ideas. Our jams can often be a "hot soup" of creative ideas. Nothing is off the table when bringing in ideas, but you have to be prepared to toss the idea if it's junk!

You have played a lot of shows, are you still nervous on stage?

Nah, it becomes 2nd nature. It's always a good time, so there's no reason for nerves.

What are your "All time Top 3 Songs", right now, in this second?

Sheesh.
Luca Brasi - Remiss of Me
The Bad Dad Orchestra - Trama
The Real McKenzies - Chip

What’s next for you?

Another EP we're hoping to drop later in the year. Follow us on Spotify/Facebook so you get it as soon as it's out!
