Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

Dark Alternative meets Electro Art Pop: "Goddess" by Mango in Euphoria

Mango in Euphoria

French artist Mango In Euphoria dropped her luggage in London in the middle of summer 2019 after working in Orlando, Florida and travelling in 12 states of America and stopping by Mexico and Cuba. With a forever desire of cutting off the chaos she was born in, she developed a strong “wanderlust”.
From her young age until now, she kept on journaling everything she was going through to make sure she remembers the full pattern of her life, with only one goal in mind: reaching her higher self, no matter what it would be.

Mango in Euphoria is...?

A french bitch. An artist. A crazy girl who only gets excited about the party, the stage and the sex but who shares the real struggles of life with the public. Someone you can love, or totally can't stand I guess.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

I was a huge admirer of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga growing up and I just wanted to be them, then I discovered Lana Del Rey, and a little bit later The Struts. But also Madonna, George Michael, The Spice Girls, the L5 – who were basically the french version of the Spice Girls - , Bowie, The Runaways... There's a lot I can't think of right now.
Marilyn Manson was really important in my teenage life and Grimes is one of my favorite artists. I was always writing poems and kept them to myself and I never thought I could be taken seriously about doing music. I realized I'm good at creating melodies at some point.
When I immigrated to London in 2019, my first friends and connections were in the music field, and I was the groupie all the time low-key wishing I was the one on stage. But I'm not spitting on that position, I love being the groupie still and take pictures and scream and clap and all of that.

What's the story behind your latest release "Goddess", what or who was your inspiration, respectively?

I wrote it in 2021, when I had absolutely no idea what was waiting for me, and the DIY version was very cute and sunny with no strong character in it. I wrote it after a break-up, because I needed to let go. This is how I started to write the first verse. The second verse was written about that sick copycat who kept stealing my shit for months and by that I mean my ideas and creativity but always with a step behind.
The chorus is talking about being free and dancing in a nightclub or on a stage, and be shamelessly who you are in front of everybody. So it's a bit like, go on, talk shit about me, but you don't know shit about me. Some people will try to put you down and take your light, but, I never admited I was perfect and I know how fucked up I can be. What do you want, lol. I have my place on this earth, just like you. But the difference is, I'm being myself, and some people don't do things for themselves and hide behind a mask, and they wonder why their asses are frustrated.
In December 2021, I started to write a new version of Goddess. The real version, I like to say. Because this is an angry song. It's powerful. It makes you wanna punch faces of gaslighters. A real-life softer Harley Quinn. The Rebirth of a modern Persephone. The Queen of The Underworld.

How would you describe your creative process?

I write most of my songs in the middle of the night, between 3am to 5am, I come up with the best melodies. This is why I start my days at noon, my sleeping schedule is fucked! Then I'm looking for producers who are hungry enough to make me go to the top 10.
It usually takes a few meetings 'till I find the right match for a song. It also to me has to make a skeleton with the vibe I'm creating.

What's your most useful talent besides music?

My body vibes on the music, I think I can say I'm quiet a good dancer! I also can write books. I finished one when I was 18 but I decided to not publish it although I found an editor, I was too ashamed. I don't know if I was ashamed because it was a novel about vampires or because there were a lot of sex scenes involved but I didn't know what I was talking about because I was still a virgin.
And no, I'm not going to say I'm good at cooking, because I'm clearly not, I hate cooking, I can't do it, I don't want to do it, and it's just a waste of time.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Grimes if you can hear me !
