Please Insert Coin: ‘Games’ by The Octopus Division

‘Games’ by The Octopus Division If you love the 80s and don't know Matt Muncie (aka The Octopus Division), you've definitely missed something. But as it's never too late for good music, you can catch up on what you've missed anytime and almost anywhere.  The Octopus Division's latest work is called ‘Games’ and once again represents the decade of neon lights perfectly. The major sequences are classically chosen, and you'll be hooked from the start. Back in the world of arcade games, the song becomes an intense journey of self-discovery, describing personal growth. Timelessness and shared experiences emphasize the importance of interpersonal bonds. ‘Games’ creates a dreamy atmosphere that allows you to immerse yourself in another world and makes you think about the future - all because you pressed the start button.  The entire production clearly bears Matt's signature, with classic drums, synth arrangements, and above all, the usual concise vocal part, which...

Being kind to yourself: "Coffee" by Koolz

Koolz

Koolz

Hailing from the land of sunshine and sandy beaches on the Gold Coast, KOOLZ is an Australian INDIE R&B/Pop singer and songwriter who just unleashed her debut self-titled EP JANUARY 7th, 2022.
While her solo passion project is about to take off, KOOLZ has been working and collaborating with the best for many years. Name dropping may seem lame, but not when it includes working with legends like M-phazes, Bliss N Eso and Electrik Lemonade. How's that for a dazzling array of musical genius?

Who is the "human" behind the artist Koolz and how did you get into music?

My name is joolz Kenny (I took the k from Kenny and I replaced the j = KOOLZ 😝 I got into music in the early 2000’s when I met aria award winning producer M-phazes. He was still producing out of his bedroom back then! He would invite me along to sessions to add some extra female vox spices to tracks… this definitely sparked something in me!

What's the story behind your latest release "Coffee"?

Koolz, Australia
Coffee is about being kind to yourself. Far too often As we go through life’s distractions and experiences the common fact remains that we as human beings are own worst enemy.
It’s about checking in, with yourself, with others, are you ok? Where you at? We got this!
The way our mind over thinks things, the way it talks us into doing the things we know we shouldn’t, and out of the things we know we should. We can choose better times for ourselves if we take a moment to breathe and make better choices to find happiness.

Being an Indie artist is ...?

A LOT OF WORK haha. Time management is crucial to be getting things done at a steady rate. There are definitely a lot of boxes that need to be ticked through song writing, production, recording and releasing process as you know. But having the freedom to have full control over how, where, when and what I am doing is awesome!

What was/is in your opinion the last "Turning point" in music history?

2020 I reckon. A year a serious social reckoning especially during the Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd. There was a new sound to protest and it was in music. Artists across many different styles and genres expressed rage, mourning, resolve and solidarity.

Your first ever self written song was about ...?

It was a dreamy tune about being caught off guard by someone or something incredibly beautiful. Perhaps a serious moment of lust tied in with uncertainty of whether it would last or not.
You know that feeling you get when you meet someone new, feelings growing like a rapid fire but you’re still being so cautious of what it could be… is this it??? Do I open up again kinda feels :)

What’s next for you?

Due to emerging through Covid I decided to put my time and energy into writing and releasing music.. spending my time in the studio as apposed to on stage to avoid disappoint of inconsistency and disappointment of canceled gigs. Now that I have released a few singles and a debut EP I’m happy and will be hitting the stages as of September. I’m so pumped to start playing these tunes live with my band and catch up with all the fans!
