Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

Q&A

Holler are...?

... a new vibrant and energetic Brighton based band looking to leave their mark on the south-coast indie scene. After the release of their debut single ‘See Straight Through’ they have since performed across the uk with bands such as ‘Dutch Criminal Record’, ‘The Motive’ and ‘The Mezz’ and have released a further single to introduce the listeners to a more diverse side to them.

Who inspired you to make music in general?

Each of the 4 boys all have their separate influences.
Lucas (Lead Singer) and Billy (Drummer) are both heavily inspired by modern 80s inspired indie bands such as The 1975, Inhaler and Sam fender, whilst Felix (Lead Guitarist) stems from a more Brit-pop background, listening to the likes of The Stone Roses, Oasis and The Seahorses. Our bassist Jarvy listened to a lot of pop-punk whilst growing up but has branched out over the years with a wide range of different genres.
We believe our sound features a good mix of our different influences - catchy pop chorus’ with a punk twist.

What's the hardest part in your opinion for an Indie Artist?

Paying the bills!

Your favorite Venue in Brighton is....?

The Hope and Ruin - The venue has a special place in our hearts as it was the first venue we played with an actual stage! We have had some amazing and memorable nights.

Let us know a song you can't listen to anymore although it was a favorite one?

Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran. I listened to this song on repeat when I was about 14 and just can’t listen to it anymore as I’m so sick of it!
Ed Sheeran played a big part of my childhood and heavily inspired me to pick up a guitar and write some tunes. A stunning song that definitely did a lot for me growing up, but I have just over played it!

What’s next for you?

We are planning to tour the uk towards the end of the year, supporting bands such as ‘The Royston Club’ and ‘Voodoo Bandits’. We are keen to play more shows in northern cities and want to continue to grow and improve our sound.
