‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Real, raw and direct: "HI HA" by Eruption Artistique

Eruption Artistique

Eruption Artistique

"INDIE ROCK 'N' ROLL is their game: In these confusing times, when culture and artistic initiatives are suffering, the non-conformist artistic collective Eruption Artistique tries to enlighten everyone with pure Indie Rock N' Roll and absurdist clips. Of course this will not please the cultural elite... but we see ourselves as the alternative collective par excellence, who can calibrate this for the positive..."

Eruption Artistique are ..?

... a collective consists of musicians, filmmakers, photographers and actors. We stand for love, tolerance and equality and try to fight against conservatism, racism and bourgeoisie culturally. We are making alternative RNR, heavenly inspired by 60s and 90s Rock.

How did you get into music?

We make music since we were 12 years old. Played in many bands, in many different alternative scenes. Some were really successful, some were just for fun, but always distortioned and fuzz based.

"HI HA" is an amazing Alternative meets Art Rock banger, what was your inspiration for the song?

The song and the video inspired each other. The video is shot by our good friend and underground photographer: Jean Paul Gummo. He is a big fan of Roger Ballen and Harmony Korine and doesn’t use any apps, or filters. Everything is real, raw and direct. Just like the music.
The theme about horses is a metaphor for the fight for equality. We believe in that people should "party hard", have fun, create beauty, but the most important part should be the respect to each other. Equality is the keyword. No one is better… we are all horses (or dragons or dogs, or whatever… don’t take yourself so serious, just love each other)

What can we expect from your forthcoming EP?

Our EP "ICON" will include four tracks. Song number one will be a very fast and uplifting Rock/New Wave track called "Erupted". The second one is "ICON", a song where everything we love comes together.. "The great White Leslie" is number 3, is a very experimental song, it’s a waltz based on an old poem I wrote when I was a teenager. The last one is "HI HA"
We are also shooting a video for "ICON". You can expect something very very very special. Hopefully it will be finished at the end of the summer.

You are from Rotterdam, how would you describe the music scene there?

We are mostly an audio/visual project up till now and are really focused on ourselves. We love many different bands and styles, from garage RNR to Acid Jazz and from Brit Pop to Heavy Metal and Rap. There is an awesome popstage in Rotterdam called Rotown. Many cool acts play there.

Your "All time Top 3 Songs" are ... right now, in this second?

Oasis: Slide Away
The Doors: Break on Through
Jefferson Airplane: White Rabbit

Any chance to see you live on stage?

In the beginning it was not our idea to play live but now we have some lovely tracks and people start asking us to come over and play, so I guess next year we will play some gigs.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

We are now completely focusing on our EP: "ICON" and on our new Video. We are working more close with The Smackbar, this gives us more financial space. Stay tuned for some sick visuals and tunes at the end of this summer. Enjoy the summer, party hard, create beauty and be nice, see ya soon, X Eruption Artistique
