‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

They are ready to melt yer heart: Frankie Morrow & "Sunflowers"

Frankie Morrow

Frankie Morrow

Almost a decade after playing in various outfits together and separately on the west coast of Scotland from the tender age of 14, a chance meeting on a train back home for Christmas from London brought childhood friends Frankie Morrow (electric guitar, lead vocals) James Smith (bass) and Duncan Carswell (drums) back together once more. A couple of bevvies later; a plan was born.
After two failed attempts at getting together - and a pandemic to boot - the band finally formed in January 2022.

Frankie Morrow is/are...?

Frankie Morrow, scottish band
We are Frankie Morrow. A Scottish, indie, female-led 5-piece ready to melt yer heart. Two of our members have their own projects: Neev and Samuel Nicholson. Something someone wouldn’t know about us is that Frankie and James were in a band together when they were in high school!

Your first steps in music were...?

Well I (Frankie) originally wanted to get a violin for my birthday many years ago as my best friend at the time had one - and I thought she was the coolest thing ever - however I think my parents couldn’t quite stand the thought of a 6 year old with a violin - so I got a guitar instead! Very wise.

"Sunflowers" your second single creates an amazing Indie Folk meets Pop atmosphere, what was your inspiration?

scottish artists
Hmm I don’t think we set out with a particular sound in mind. It’s a simple song really, but I knew I wanted it to have lush instrumentation (strings, double bass). The song started as most of them do with just me and an acoustic guitar and I guess it just developed from there quite naturally. Artists like Leif Volebekk who have that genre crossover and develop lengthier songs on a simple theme are an inspiration.

Your favorite Venue in Glasgow is....?

The barras! Hands down.

What's in your opinion the most underrated song?

Ae fond kiss - Robert Burns.

What’s next for you?

Lots of gigs and more releases before the year is out! We have something exciting to announce really soon. Come with us on this journey- we promise we’ll look after you. :)
