Neil Armstrong’s ‘In the Borderlands’: A Nostalgic Journey Through Love and Loss

“In the Borderlands” by Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong steps onto our blog stage for the first time as an artist. His music pays tribute to the icons of the 80s, including The Cure, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys, and Howard Jones. Oscillating between the realms of Synth-Pop/Rock and New Wave, Armstrong’s transnational work, fluctuating between Spain and Scotland, is expressed in his latest piece, “In the Borderlands.” The song takes us on an introspective journey through the nuances of human relationships, unfolding the complexity of interpersonal dynamics . It exposes these nuances on the operating table of music, bringing them to life with a nostalgic touch reminiscent of the 80s, thereby endowing the work with a soul. The arrangement, inspired by the musical giants of that era, is a testament to Armstrong’s exceptional talent for composing and arranging songs. Every note, every melody in “In the Borderlands” is carefully chosen to tell a story of love: its loss and rediscovery, wit

Go with the flow and let it happen: "It comes together" by KEEF

KEEF

... are a psychedelic indie rock band formed in a small industrial town, northwest, England. Their music and lyrics are very much influenced by their working class upbringing. The feeling of alienation, isolation and discontent are some of the themes echoed within the music. KEEF’s influences range from 60’s psychedelia to indie punk.

KEEF are ..?

... an indie/alternative band from Runcorn in the North West of England. At the moment we are a 3 piece band: Mike Paul Davies (Vocals/Guitar), Andy Murphy (Bass Guitar), Tom Woods (Drums).
We are currently looking for a new lead guitarist and a keyboard player to join us. Runcorn is a small working class industrial town situated between Liverpool and Manchester so we grew up on all the music which was local to us.
Bands such as The Beatles, Echo And The Bunnymen, The Stone Roses, Joy Division, The Smiths, Oasis etc. We write songs based on how we feel at the time and what we observe navigating this world. Also things that have shaped us from the past or made us the people we are today.

How did you get into music?

I got into music through art really. I was always into drawing and anything creative and that naturally progressed into music and picking up a guitar. I was inspired by the bands that I was listening to day to day and thought that is something I feel passionate about doing. I was more inspired by the songwriting aspect and creating something new.

"It comes together" sounds amazing, what's the story behind?

It came about through contemplating existence really and how every kinda aligns perfectly for us to exist in this world. Everything had to fall into place or come together for us to exist.
It's such a freak accident that happened for us to be living on this planet and floating in space. It made me think about what's important in life. We all have our day to day problems that at the time feel really important to us, but on the grand scale of things it's nothing compared to what is happening under the hood.
Sometimes you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders but life is just a complete gamble which is impossible to predict so just go with the flow and let it happen.

What's in your opinion the most difficult part concerning songwriting?

I think the most difficult part for me is whether I feel the song is good enough or will relate to people. I'm my own worst critic and often beat myself and think "this isn't good enough" etc. I've probably written many songs that I've not finished due to my own insecurity and thinking maybe this isn't that great.
That's why it's good to have some constructive feedback or someone you can trust who can tell you if it's good/bad.

Being an Indie Artist/Band is ...?

It's cool yeah but can be difficult like managing the band and dealing with the setbacks. It's not that easy being in a band as everyone has their own personal issues and commitments.

Do we have the chance to see you somewhere live on stage?

Yeah hopefully in the near future. We are currently looking for a few new members at the moment to complete the line up. However we are working on a setlist and looking to plan some local live dates asap.

Your "All time Top 3 Songs" are ... right now, in this second?

Ahh it's a difficult one as there are so many songs I think are great. I'll keep it local and go with:
Joy Division - Love With Tear Us Apart
The Stone Roses - Fools Gold
The LA's - There She Goes

What can we expect from you in the near future?

Expect more new releases/videos and some live dates asap.
