Lissy Taylor is ..?
... an upcoming indie artist and songwriter for fans of Sam Fender and Wolf Alice.
How did you get into music?
Wherever I go I’ve always been massively involved in music and will find a place in the music scene its what I’ve always loved. I lived in America for a few years and loved playing in the packed out music bars across different states, embracing the almost cinematic culture of it all kinda like lana del rey references in her lyrics. In the UK the music scene is where I feel most at home as it’s what I’ve grown up with the most. When I moved back from the US I started a songwriting degree in Manchester which is really when I started to develop my own sound in my writing. The UK also plays a huge role in my music, most artists I listen to and inspire me are UK artists such as Florence and The Machine, Wolf Alice, Arctic Monkeys and Sam Fender.
What's the story behind your latest release "Healer"?
People who give everything they can give, completely selfless love inspired Healer. My writing is often autobiographical, I wrote it mid lockdown inspired by my own family and friends in how supportive they were to each other in a tough time.
The writing process happened pretty quickly I wrote the song initially on acoustic guitar one afternoon then recorded a rough demo that day. I recorded with my band in the studio with Producer Gareth Nuttall who really understood my vision for the track.
Concerning songwriting, what's the easiest part for you?
The easiest part I would say varies with each song, but for Healer it was the lyrics because it felt natural.
Is there a chance to see you somewhere live on stage?
In the process of confirming gigs at the moment, if you give my Spotify a follow all my upcoming shows will be listed on there.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
Everything is so accessible I think there’s less mystery about artists but in the same breath it can provide a huge audience to connect with instantly.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Candid and Phoebe Green.
What's your most useful talent besides music?
As an independent artist also working as a music lecturer I don’t spend any time outside of music, its music 24/7.
What's next for you?
I will be releasing more this year, announcing more shows and writing more songs.
