Booze Radly is ...?
...a 5-piece emo/punk band from Philadelphia, PA, USA. We've been around since 2013. Our members are: Alex Manescu (guitar/vocals), Dylan Molloy (keyboard/vocals), Youssef Moussa (bass), Vince Dejesus (guitars/vocals/production), and Pete Sovia (drums)
What or who was your inspiration for "White Guy Emo (ft. Gabby Relos)"?
The inspiration for White Guy Emo was to come out of lockdown portion of Covid with a fast, fun skate-punk/pop-punk song to just let out some of our pent up energy by having straightforward fun, while poking fun at the emo and pop-punk genre saturation of content that's just about white guys feeling scorned by their exes in a knowing, self-deprecating way.
How would you describe your songwriting process?
Our songwriting process has evolved over the years where we now have this approach of sharing riffs with one another, getting together and hanging out with each other, listen to records, drink and smoke, and take turns recording ideas we have to a click track and then slowly building it out with each other. Then when we have the instrumentals, typically Alex or Dylan will tackle the lyrical content of the songs to match the vibes of the recorded instrumental demos. Once we have a demo, we tend to listen to it, ruminate, and make some adjustments in practice and final recordings.
Any chance to see you somewhere live on stage?
We have a couple of upcoming shows. We'll be playing 08/19/2022 at the Haven in North Philly and 08/20/2022 at Grays Ferry Skatepark for a free outdoors show.
The best venue in Philadelphia is ...?
...Luigi's Mansion for house shows and First Unitarian Church for ticketed events.
What was in your opinion the last big "Turning Point" in music history?
The last big "Turning Point" in music history in my opinion was covid. It killed a lot of bands and forced the scene to be entirely online and parasocial for a while. Networking and discovering new friends in the scene became a series of following people on social media, or getting invited to different discord servers and doing things like livestream shows or collaborating on compilations people were putting together.
It introduced us to a whole new generation of bands and had a huge impact on the way people consume and seek out music. Now that live shows are back, people have to adjust to kind of having one foot in both worlds, the physical and the digital, to a greater degree than ever before. It's a strange balancing act, but has been really rewarding for us as we try to move forward with some of our new tunes.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
We put out a music video for White Guy Emo and released it as a lead single off of our upcoming EP, "Lose, Badly". That EP is set to release later this month, and the second single is now also out on streaming services, titled, "Admission of Infirmity". We hope you'll check them out and give the EP a listen when it drops!
