A blueprint for cutting the circuits of control: "Cutting Circuits" by Bethan Lloyd
Bethan Lloyd
... is a Welsh artist whose trance inducing vocals expand over an ocean of rave inspired production, harmonic layering and otherworldly ecstasy. Working within the unseen realms, Bethan has engaged deeply in the art of relinquishing control. The art of becoming the hollow bone. Bethan takes her intense explorations of the spirit and emotional realms and blends them into something playful and danceable, a gritty experimental pop.
She has worked as a composer, television presenter and performance artist, she now teaches voice at some of the best earth-based-practice schools and performs with experimental vocal project SoundingBody and ritualistic beats duo Jet Pack Dog.
Bethan Lloyd is ....?
a Welsh singer who loves nature and music and expressing the full spectrum of the voice.
"Cutting Circuits" is an amazing experimental electro meets trance pop song, what was your inspiration, what's the story behind?
Cutting Circuits is a celebration of relinquishing control, both internally and externally. Changing the pathways of one’s life and opening up to genuine and powerful experiences of awe. This song is a blueprint for cutting the circuits of control and returning to our true gifts, to the web and to the void.
Nowadays the playtime of songs is around 2 and a half min, ...enough to tell the story?
This story is too big to even tell in one song! But I try my best and I will continue to tell the story for the rest of my life.
How would you describe your creative process?
My creative process is very much one of surrender and play. I love to be inspired by nature, by animism and by fun! I end up having an amazingly intimate time with myself creating visionary worlds inside my head and trancing out for hours until some ideas are birthed.
If you could select an extraordinary location to play live, where would it take place?
100% it would be in the Welsh mountains, my home. A gig in Dinas Emrys where Merlin gave his prophecy, tucked away in the middle of 4 giant mountains amongst the trees would be a good one!
What's in your opinion one of the most underrated songs?
The last big "turning point" in music history was ...?
The birth of electronic music.
... and of course what’s next for you?
I am going to be away alone in the wilderness for 4 months writing my next album. I imagine it might pop out more cinematic this time and perhaps less electronic but lets see. It is not for me to decide....
