The Masterblaster
They call him The MasterBlaster. His entire existence is focused on one obsession; the groove. His look, his glasses, his hair, his every move! He's an accomplished musician with impeccable pop production. His great love? 80's Funk! The vintage sound of the drum machines, the synthesizers and the flashy guitars...
The purists will have fun to spot the references, the winks to his idols such as Michael Jackson or Prince. The others will enjoy a version under steroids, of the iconic sound of this time. His first single "Sexy Thing" is the perfect introduction; an electro-funk banger with a relentless and provocative groove.
The Masterblaster is ...?
My solo project! A character I created to express my funky side.
How did you get into music?
I began with classical piano lessons when I was a teen. Then it fastly took more and more space in my life. I also learnt to sing, play the guitar, write songs etc.. I had many bands and projects; rock bands, musical, piano accompaniment… Now it’s a part of my job, I play keyboard for other projects.
"Sexy thing" has this funky retro electro charme, what was your inspiration?
Because of the pandemic, my life stopped and I came back to my mother. I naturally got back to the music I listened to when I was a kid; Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Motown music, Prince etc… This sweet nostalgia feeling was very comforting for me, and for others I noticed later on. So I decided to delve more into it!
You are starting from scratch, does this mean that you are a full Indie DIY musician?
Yes really! DIY is the good word. I am my own manager, producer, artistic director, sound engineer, press officer etc…In addition I’m a kind of perfectionnist and I know what I want so, I like to have the control on everything.
What is the hardest part of being an Indie Artist?
You have to be a good artist, obviously! But you also have to be smart about the way you manage your business. I think those two things are really not so easy to conciliate. It’s a full heart and mind job
If you could choose an artist or producer for a collaboration, who would it be?
I would say Cory Wong because I really could use his rhythmic guitar style, in my compositions
...and of course what’s next for you?
Success, ladies and money I guess? I will release my music, work on my social media then I’ll see where the groove drives me :D
