‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Q&A Today: Irina Imme

Irina Imme

Irina Imme

An independent singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who mastered several different musical genres, Irina Imme has written over 250 original songs to date and attracted audiences from over 70 different countries with her catchy, original material. Irina released 2 singles entitled "When I Was Young" and "A Sky of Gray" under the name Irina Atanasiu before releasing her 4-track EP entitled "This Little Girl" on all music platforms.

Who is the "human" behind the artist Irina Imme...?

Wow, I don't know where to start! Well for one I am very passionate about music, whether it is making it, listening to it or reading about it, I am just drawn to anything to do with music! Apart from that, I enjoy taking long walks, having deep conversations about life, travelling, trying out new food and painting to name a few things. I consider myself quite a spontaneous and fun-loving person.

How did you get into music?

Irina Imme, London
I got into music when I was around 13-14 and going through heartbreak; I started writing songs as a way to process my emotions and then I just kept doing that whenever I was going through something challenging. I guess this is why most of my songs are quite depressing; it's not that I'm always sad, it's just that I tend to write most of my songs when I am sad.

When did you recognize your songwriting talent?

I guess I only really stopped to think about it towards the end of high school. I realised that the one thing that comes naturally to me and that I enjoy doing is writing songs. When I released my debut single "When I Was Young" in 2018 and people were actually listening to it and congratulating me for making that song I realised that maybe this is really something worth pursuing.

Your last EP "U & me" sounds great and sad at the same time, what or who was your inspiration?

Thank you! "U & Me" is an EP that explores the different aspects of romantic relationships and the inspiration behind the lyrics was my own life and my own past relationships. Sonically, I was inspired a lot by Taylor Swift and Twenty One Pilots.

It's nearly two years since "U & me" has been released, are you working on new material?

Irina Imme, BiMM
Yes, I have been working on some new songs. I often collaborate with producers when creating my music and it is very important for me to wait until I find somebody who really understands my vision for my songs. I am aiming to release a new song by the end of 2022, so let's hope that works out!

How would you describe your creative process?

I play guitar and piano so what usually happens when I am writing a song is I sit down with one of my instruments and I play around with chords until I find a melody that really resonates with me and the message that I want to put out and then I fill that in with lyrics related to whatever thing is going on in my life at that point in time.
As I have previously mentioned, I write most of my songs when I am sad or just feeling some sort of intense emotion, so lyrics tend to come to me very quickly when I am in that state.

What's next for you?

Well right now I am studying at a music school in London, so I have a lot more time than before to finally focus on my music properly. Being surrounded by other creative people has also done me a lot of good. I have a feeling that 2023 will be a good year for me musically as I am planning to release a new batch of songs that I have been teasing to my listeners for a while now. I really hope that people will like the new sound!
