Technoesque Poesie: "Stern" by Jioni , ENNA

Roe Byrne

... is an 18-year-old singer-songwriter, born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, with influences such as Dermot Kennedy, Hozier, and Novo Amor. He has big plans for releasing and gigging in 2023 which has been prepped through the very busy leaving cert and college year.
Writing new songs nearly every other day, he hopes that someday his songs will impact people the same way Dermot Kennedy has impacted him. He is very excited to see what people think of the new unreleased singles as he feels it's some of the best work he’s made so far.

"We are an events and promotions company based in Dublin, Ireland. Since 2018 we have worked tirelessly to expand the music scene in Dublin, from our weekly singer/songwriter night Monday Club, to working with emerging artists to put on successful events from the biggest stages in Dublin to a stage at Electric Picnic.
Since the COVID crisis has set in, we’ve been working tirelessly to pivot and repurpose our skills to keep supporting Irish music. We are using our contacts from several years spent in the Irish music industry to offer PR services for new releases. We've continued Monday Club through a weekly live stream, and have started a series of playlists to support Irish music. We also offer a variety of other services." (-FlutterTone-)

"Fluttertone presents Roe Byrne live in the Soundhouse", it's your first ever headline show Roe, how do you feel?

I am incredibly excited! It’s only my second time playing with a full band, but the last support I did with them went so well that I’m buzzing for this one even more! Double the songs, double the fun!

I have read the guys in your band are friends throughout your whole career, when did you start "being a band" and writing your own music?

Yea Dan & Chris used to be in a band with me in a music school called Mezzo, it’s kind of where I found my feet with music.
I started writing music when I was 14 I think, and release my first single in the same year! I had a little EP that I sold on the street while busking with 3 originals and 2 covers so I’ve always loved sharing my music with anyone who would listen.

How much time did you and your guys spend on rehearsals for this show or is it always the same procedure for a gig?

We spend about 3-4 hours rehearsing whenever we get the chance until it’s absolutely perfect. It’s been tricky working around everyone’s work schedule and unfortunate illnesses that’s been going around but we always find a way!

Is there a chance to hear some special versions of your released songs next week?

There’s definitely some special versions of unreleased songs that I’m dying to get out, such as a stripped-back version of a very beautiful song I wrote with the band Skinny Living. I love changing up songs I wrote years ago to find a way to make them suit my new style of music.

You write songs nearly every other day, what do you think are the differences to your first songs?

The main difference is the quality and the authenticity. I feel like I can be 100% real with my words now and not have to worry about judgment because there’s always someone who can relate to the lyrics regardless of what topic.

Do you have a ritual whenever you enter the stage?

I love sitting in the green room and playing covers that gets everyone singing along. It gets everyone in a good mood, gets my voice warmed up, and just sets the tone for a really good night!

What are your plans for 2023?

Writing, recording, gigging repeat! I have a lot in store for this year. It’s definitely going to be my most successful year so far, following last year's many successes, I have huge hopes for this year!
