‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Born out of anger, aggression and a bit of mischievousness: "Witchmother" by A.N.J.A.

A.N.J.A., Belfast

A.N.J.A.

... is a dynamic burst of energy with unhinged, anthemic tunes and a dark, hypnotic sound. Laced with grit and dripping with realness, she is harkening back to retro punk and garage, psych and stoner rock while boldly facing the real-life horrors of a dystopic, uncertain present with a fearless, electrified spirit.
Mastering a mix of cool unease, she draws inspiration from artists like Queens of the Stone Age, The Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, PJ Harvey and the B52's. Flaunting her powerful and sultry vocals and a badass attitude, A.N.J.A. radiates fierce feminine energy and unapologetic confidence. With singles ‘Monoxide’ in July 2021 and “A-Bomb” in June 2022, A.N.J.A. cranked up the volume and started her trilogy of vengeance. She is now back with her third instalment “Witchmother"

How would you describe the human behind the artist A.N.J.A. and how did you get into music?

A.N.J.A., Artist
I only ever feel like a real human being when I’m on stage. That’s how I fell in love with making music – realizing that it was a way to make connections between others and myself. Off stage I’m a laid back, hard-working and fun-loving individual trying to survive the madness of the real world with the help of cake, yoga, horror films and my little skull collection
Making music really just started out as a bit of fun at parties until I figured that I not only had a passion for music but also somewhat of a real talent for singing.

"Witchmother", your new release, sounds raw, wild and impressive, what's the story behind the song?

Thank you! “Witchmother”, like my singles “Monoxide” and “A-Bomb” previously, was born out of anger, aggression and a bit of mischievousness. This time particularly towards the patriarchy and all its injustices of the past (and present). I’m using the allegory of witch-hunts and how now the witches have turned the tables and are shaking up the world, creating a better future. Other than that it’s also just a bit of fun combining my love for folk-horror and heavy riffs!

I have read something about a show on the 3rd of March, please let us know more about it?

A.N.J.A., female singer
I’m going to play my first full band show of the year at the Pavilion Bar in Belfast on the 3 rd of March. There’ll be plenty of more A.N.J.A. shows in Belfast this year and I’m hoping to soon be gigging internationally, particularly in Germany and the rest of mainland Europe, too.

If you take a look back in music history, what was in your opinion the last big "turning point"?

Social Media, a "necessary evil" or a great tool to promote yourself?
