‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Q&A Today: Spag Ruckus (“Autopanic“ ft. Regal Standard")

Spag Ruckus

Spag Ruckus

... is the new musical project of French multidisciplinary artist Thomas Desbouvrie also known as Matheo de Bruvisso
Thomas is one of the three founding members of Dirtyphonics, a world-renowned group that has been turning up dancefloors since 2004 with its hyper-energetic bass music. After performing at the biggest festivals on the planet, and collaborating with high profile artists such as Skrillex, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Benny Bennassi, Steve Aoki and The Bloody Beetroots, Thomas left the group to take on new artistic challenges.

Thomas, you are back with your new project “Spag Ruckus“ and it seems that you are very productive (four releases in just a month), where do you take your inspiration from?

I'll try to release a lot of music this year. I take my inspiration from other artists like Eprom, Commodo, Amon Tobin... Inspiration also comes during the process of making music, I just make music like a kid would do, without thinking too much. Sometimes my modular talks to me, all I have to do is recording!

“Autopanic“ sounds fantastic, what’s the story behind?

It's a track I wrote in a few hours during an Art workshop (check my art here : debruvisso.com), it was supposed to be music for a video. When Laurence (Regal Standard) heard it, he immediately wanted to sing on it. A few days later, it was done.

You call “Spag Ruckus“ your “freedom playground“, how would you describe your creative working process and how different is it compared to former projects or collaborations?

I don't limit myself to what is usually expected. I try to go in directions that sound a bit weird to me, until I feel like I have never heard the feeling before. I try to kill the idea of "taste". There is no good or bad taste to me, there is just the emotion that happens. Even an unpleasant emotion can be interesting to me.

If you take a look back in your career, what advise would you give your younger self?

Start from the begining! I have lost a lot of time because I didn't learn enough about composition and music theory.

What do you think about social media … necessary evil or a nice promotion tool for upcoming artists?

Both. I use them as long as it's fun to me. If I feel like working or loosing my time, I stop.

“To experiment without format“ gives you all the freedom you need, what can we expect from you in the near future?

Expect the unexpected. I have an album to be released this year and every single track is really unique. I mix many genres from trap to jungle, electro to dubstep, techno to pop music... so expect the Ruckus!
