Behind the Hedges: ‘Life in the Burbs’ by The Dream Chasers

‘Life in the Burbs’ by The Dream Chasers With ‘Life in the Burbs,’ Bridgette and Peter (aka The Dream Chasers) unfold the full range of their artistic creation. They take us on a journey through the suburbs, which includes not only the visible hedges and houses but also the hidden longings and dreams of their inhabitants. With a mix of melancholic reflection and life-affirming euphoria, they paint a multi-layered portrait. The musical accompaniment is as diverse as the emotions of the residents. From indie pop melodies that capture the quiet of a Sunday morning to powerful indie rock chords that reveal the hidden wildness behind the manicured facades, The Dream Chasers offer a soundtrack that both soothes and challenges the listener. The catchy riff in ‘Life in the Burbs’ acts as a musical guide that immediately captivates the listeners and takes them on an acoustic journey through the complex emotions of suburban life. It is the artistry with which this riff captures the essence

URBANISM

‘Alive’ by URBANISM

URBANISM - rhythmic guitars, synth-pop beats, danceable grooves. The three musicians from Kassel are reminiscent of the 80s with their oppressive synths and are inspired by The Wombats, Roosevelt and KYTES.

How did you form Urbanism and who are the artists behind it?

The band consists of André Gensler (vocals, guitar), Willy Gordienko (bass, synths) and Jonas Prill (drums). We have been friends for many years and have already made music in bands. We were founded in 2020 with the idea of creating our own sound from different genres that inspire us. We even rotated the instruments.

Your amazing latest release, “Alive”, sounds awesome, what inspired it and what message do you want to convey?

URBANISM, Kassel
In the song Alive we were inspired by electronic drum parts and warm but very powerful synths. With the polyphonic singing in the verse, we wanted to set an accent that we hadn't worked with so often before and create an arc of suspense that culminates in the chorus. We also found it interesting to include a bassline in the bridge, which you wouldn't expect, but works quite well.
Alive is about getting away from toxicity! It’s a powerful anthem that celebrates the courage it takes to break free from unhealthy relationships and reclaim your life. With the electronic beat and empowering lyrics we want to inspire listeners to embrace their independe and live their best live.

What is your typical workflow as a band when creating music?

Our workflow typically works in such a way that André usually comes into the rehearsal room with a concrete idea and we give our feedback and write a song draft piece by piece with the idea. When this is ready, we dedicate ourselves to the lyrics, where everyone from the band has written different lyrics so far. Then it's time to fine-tune and arrange the individual parts until the song is finished

Being an indie artist can be challenging and demanding in terms of time, how do you cope with it?

URBANISM , Alive
We don't let that irritate us. We want to play exactly the music that we enjoy the most and that reflects our sound. It's not always super popular, but it's a lot of fun and we feel like our audience likes to listen to our music. Preferably at live concerts.

What are your thoughts on social media, do you see them as useful tools to promote yourself or more as a necessary evil?

Social media is very helpful to get in touch with people who want to discover new music or already know us. There is a lot of work and time behind it, which is important for us to present ourselves. Nevertheless we enjoy live shows and the feedback afterwards much more.

I’m sure you enjoy performing live as a band, where can we catch you on stage?

Our next concerts will all take place in Germany.
On 18.06 we will play in Kassel in the Theaterstübchen and
on 21.07 in Ahnatal near Kassel at the Willow Festival with many great bands.
Afterwards we play
on 08.09 in Gelsenkirchen and
on 21.10 in Elmshorn
However, there are a few more performances planned, which will be advertised in the next few weeks. So stay informed, it's going to be great.

What are some of the upcoming projects or plans that you are working on or looking forward to?

We are currently shooting a new video for a new single that we have already finished. Right now we are in the middle of the songwriting process and if it goes as planned we will go into the studio this year and record an EP. Right now we are in a great time between songwriting and live concerts.
