Electro-Pop’s Poet of Pain: Me & Melancholy Releases ‘Tears In The Rain’

‘Tears In The Rain’  by  Me & Melancholy Whenever there’s a new release from Me & Melancholy , it fills us with anticipation. This time, the artist paints a compelling portrait of human vulnerability and the complexity of interpersonal relationships.  ‘Tears In The Rain’ succeeds in capturing the essence of ephemeral beauty and the pain of the inevitable, expressing it through music. The dynamics of estrangement, articulated in the lines ‘I’m not able to reach you ’ and ‘ the more I try, the further I push you away ’, reflect a tragic irony. It feels like a dance of approach and withdrawal, prompting listeners to contemplate the paradoxes that often occur in our most intimate relationships.  The artist’s signature melancholic tone conveys a plea for acceptance and an attempt to bridge the gap created by misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Musically, Peter Ehrling navigates familiar territory, once again leveraging it to his advantage by capturing the emotional depth.   ‘Tears

Flora Falls

Brea and Dom are both passionate singer-songwriters who pursued their dreams and moved to Berlin in recent years. They crossed paths at an Open Stage event in 2019, where they were impressed by each other’s solo performances
They agreed to collaborate on a songwriting session, which ignited the flame of Flora Falls. Their musical and personal chemistry was undeniable, and their voices harmonized wonderfully. Not long after, Flora Falls showcased their first songs at Kindl Stuben, a renowned venue for songwriters in Berlin.

Your story started in 2019. Did you ever imagine that it would take such an impressive and successful direction?

When we met and wrote our first song in February 2019 we both felt a very easy, and inspiring creative connection. As we continued meeting throughout 2019 we knew that we'd found something special in our partnership. It isn't easy to find people that you can work creatively well with: this type of partnership demands a lot of trust, honesty, vulnerability and care (and laughter).
Once we knew we had found that in each other, we threw ourselves into this project! We are both very motivated and passionate about what we do, so although we didn't know exactly where the project would lead us, we believed in what we were doing and we believed in each other. We are really thankful for where that road has led us so far, and we look forward to where it continues to go!

Flora Falls is known for great songwriting and an amazing atmosphere. How do you approach the songwriting process and what are some of the tools or techniques that you use?

Whenever we plan to meet for a songwriting session, we both try to come with some ideas that we can use as a starting point. (Or not). Sometimes that idea might be a guitar riff that Dom has been working on, or it might be a line that Brea remembers from a conversation with a friend, or we simply catch up and we find ourselves talking about similar themes that we are experiencing in our day to day life (e.g. letting go, facing fears etc.)
No matter the starting point, we usually end up unpacking a topic together, each sharing different perspectives and experiences. At some point in the conversation we realise: this is it! And we begin to map out the important parts of the theme that we want to cover in the song. Step by step, it takes shape, and we always try to finish the song in that session. We find that if we stop halfway through, the moment passes and we never go back to it.
Despite the starting point, the song always ends up being relevant to our lives or the thoughts we've both been ruminating on in the lead up to the session. We feel that it's really important to write something that we are interested in unpacking and exploring in that moment. It keeps it real and inspiring.

“Hidden from You” is the final release from your EP. What can our readers look forward to hearing from you?

Yes, we are so excited that we have finally released our second EP 'Hidden from You' with the title track as its final single! It was about 3 years in the making and it feels so good to share it with the world. We hope that your listeners will take the time to listen to it and connect with it in some way. We really poured our heart and soul into these songs.
For the future...this year we have plans to record one or two singles that we will release later this year, but most of our time and energy will go into touring and playing the songs from our EP.

Do you have any plans to perform live on stage in the near future?

Yes! We will be touring and performing live quite a lot this year. Right now we are on tour in Switzerland playing some beautiful living room/garden concerts, and in some great local venues. In August we will go on tour through Germany, France and the Netherlands with the Folk Road Show, and then in November we are planning a two week 'Hidden from You' release tour throughout Germany with a band and a final show in Berlin on November 19 at Frannz Club.
(You can already get tickets for this show! How do you think social media has influenced the music industry?

Phew...big question! In so many ways! I think the big difference right now is the value of having people use your song/sound on their reels and videos. People aren't necessarily listening to whole songs anymore, but just need the perfect soundbyte for their video. Musicians now face the extra challenge of trying to find ways to encourage people to use their songs in their videos and hope that they start trending.

How do you balance the time-consuming aspect of being an indie artist with other aspects of your life?

It is a constant juggle, but we try to plan ahead and really set time aside for our project. We try to allocate at least a day a week for rehearsal/songwriting, and then block out dates for tours throughout the year. If you don't set time aside, it will be used in other ways.

What can we expect from Flora Falls next?

Bigger live shows, lots of laughter on social media, some new songs and who knows what else!? It's a mystery to us too!
