‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

A Sonic Invocation of the Cosmos: VARYA’s Mystical and Harmonic “Oh Them Rivers - EP”

VARYA’s Mystical and Harmonic “Oh Them Rivers - EP”

VARYA, a songstress of Moldovian origin, weaves music that pierces the heart with sincerity. A poet by nature, she discovered her gift for melodies at the tender age of 14 and has since filled countless pages with her lyrical art. Born to a father who was both a musician and a poet of renown in Moldova, her creations flow from her soul with ease and grace.
“Oh Them Rivers - EP” is VARYA’s second album, and it reveals her inner world as a mirror of the vast cosmos we inhabit. It is a mystical journey through hidden meanings, existential questions, and cinematic visions. "Oh Them Rivers - EP" is a sonic invocation that mesmerizes with its harmonic layers and its diverse vocal influences.

“Open Fears” is a song about liberation, about accepting the imperfections and the realities of someone’s being without dread or bitterness. It is a goodbye to love, a plea to let go of the ties that keep us from our own bliss. Musically, it is a masterpiece of staging.

“The Fight” is a song that draws inspiration from Virginia Woolf. In “The Fight”, the artist attempts to portray that moment of “plunging into the white wild waves” perishing for, or perhaps, owing to the burden of the battles that we wage in this world. The ambience is artfully crafted in terms of sound and can be regarded as a sonical extension of the first song.

"Unwild"
The theme is the curious bond with our planet, humanity, greed and the fact that we have estranged ourselves from our own nature as part of the wild world around us. The musical expression shifts a little away from the melancholy, one seeks hope.

"Molds"
It’s about liberating ourselves from our stiff, factory-made forms; the boxes we were born, raised, and conditioned into - give up your “Living in a box” . Majestically staged sorrow, in which the vocals lend the song even more profundity.

"Oh Them Rivers"
“Oh Them Rivers” continues the same idea of “leaving your comfort zone” to discover more love, kindness and gentleness in life. However, the title track asks more than its predecessor, asks in the sense of becoming conscious of this.

“Lady Please” and “Lion’s Den” finish the more than successful album. It’s so much easier to follow the lead and blindly trust that someone else will somehow magically provide the answers for us.
