Electro-Pop’s Poet of Pain: Me & Melancholy Releases ‘Tears In The Rain’

‘Tears In The Rain’  by  Me & Melancholy Whenever there’s a new release from Me & Melancholy , it fills us with anticipation. This time, the artist paints a compelling portrait of human vulnerability and the complexity of interpersonal relationships.  ‘Tears In The Rain’ succeeds in capturing the essence of ephemeral beauty and the pain of the inevitable, expressing it through music. The dynamics of estrangement, articulated in the lines ‘I’m not able to reach you ’ and ‘ the more I try, the further I push you away ’, reflect a tragic irony. It feels like a dance of approach and withdrawal, prompting listeners to contemplate the paradoxes that often occur in our most intimate relationships.  The artist’s signature melancholic tone conveys a plea for acceptance and an attempt to bridge the gap created by misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Musically, Peter Ehrling navigates familiar territory, once again leveraging it to his advantage by capturing the emotional depth.   ‘Tears

A Poetic and Philosophical Spectacle of the Cosmic Connection: “Here We Are Sidereal” by Thy Veils

“Here We Are Sidereal” by Thy Veils [DE]

An impressive audio-visual work that portrays the cosmic connection between humans and the universe is “Here We Are Sidereal” by Thy Veils. The song, composed by Daniel Dorobantu and sung by Alira Mun, Maria Hojda and Francesca Hojda, makes one marvel in awe, almost freeze, and creates a unique mood with its ethereal vocals and atmospheric electronic sounds.
It explores the theme of the sidereal, which means, I had to look it up first, that it refers to the stars or is determined by them, and indicates that the human being is part of this sphere and can communicate with universal vibrations. The song also celebrates the beauty and diversity of the universe and the joy of discovering and learning from it. At the same time, it is a poetic and philosophical reflection on the human existence and the cosmic order.
The video, recorded live on Galactic Tick Day at the Galactic Tick Festival in Timișoara, Romania, shows a group of dancers, led by Alexandra Gîrbea and Denisa Coropca, performing a choreography that matches the theme of the song. Q&A

What was the process of creating your group Thy Veils and what were the key factors that influenced your musical style?

Greetings everyone and thank you for the invitation.
The process of creating Thy Veils was a long and gradual one, that started from my personal passion for music and sound. It began as a studio-only music project in 1995, experimenting with different electronic sounds and techniques.
I was influenced by various genres and styles, such as ambient, electronic, world, classical, and the Byzantine chants of the Christian Orthodox Church that I was brought up into. I also drew inspiration from nature, spirituality, philosophy, science, and art. In 2008 Thy Veils became an art collective.

I’m impressed by “Here We Are Sidereal”, which is a stunning cinematic adventure across the cosmos, in my opinion. What motivated you and what’s the meaning behind it?

This music video is part of our “Galactic Tick Day Live Special”, a 90-minute dance show that celebrates Galactic Tick Day, humanity’s first cosmic holiday designed to raise awareness about the fascinating movement of the Solar System around our galaxy.
It is an occasion to learn more about the arts and sciences that help us understand the nature and origin of the universe. We hope it can increase a sense of unity and harmony among humans and other living beings. It can help us recognize that we are all part of the same galactic journey and that we share a common destiny and responsibility. We can celebrate our diversity and creativity, and also our similarities and interdependence. We can also strive to make this journey a little nicer for everyone by being compassionate, respectful, and cooperative.
Galactic Tick Day inspired and uplifted everyone involved. Artists and technicians, promoters and managers, volunteers, and the members of the audience, everyone was beautifully moved and involved by this new celebration and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to experience this event with them.
I will take the opportunity to express our gratitude, admiration, respect, and love towards Alina Mafa - she was so inspired by the concept of Galactic Tick Day that she took upon herself alone the monumental task of creating and organizing from scratch a whole festival around this new holiday, in less than 3 months. And she did it: now we all have and enjoy the Galactic Tick Festival.

How do you collaborate as a group and what are the main challenges of working together?

I think that collaborating as a group is one of the most rewarding and challenging aspects of being an artist. I am grateful and fortunate to work with talented and passionate people who share my vision and contribute to it with their own skills and perspectives. We are not a fixed or rigid group, but rather a flexible and dynamic ensemble that adapts to each project and context.
We have different backgrounds and roles, such as musicians, videographers and photographers, stylists, dancers and choreographers, and more, but we are united by common goals like creating meaningful art that transcends the boundaries of genres and media, getting closer and closer to the source of inspiration itself or just exploring consciousness.

How much time did you spend practicing before you were confident to perform live on stage?

For me, confidence was not the result of practice alone but of many, many things. By far, the main impediment was social anxiety which troubled me from an early age. I felt completely liberated by it and therefore confident when I reached 40 years old.

Since you started in 1995, what have been the major changes from then to now?

The major changes are the transformation from a music-only studio project, to an audio-visual one. Then, from a solo project to a band, and later to an ensemble of performing arts.

Who would you love to talk to about music, no matter if they are alive or not?

I would love to talk to many but if I had to choose one, it would be the 13th-century poet, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī.

How do you manage the demanding aspect of being an artist with the other facets of your life?

Being an artist is not a separate facet of my life, but rather a way of living and perceiving the world, a lovely way to be more and more in the flow state. I do not see it as a demanding aspect but as a natural expression of a calling towards something that seems to be the unknown, the sublime, towards unity.
Of course, being an artist also involves some practical challenges, such as finding the time, the resources, and the collaborators. I have learned to balance these aspects with the other responsibilities and obligations I have in my life, such as family, friends, and health. I do not neglect or sacrifice any of these aspects and I do my best to integrate them in a harmonious way.

What are your aspirations and goals for your musical journey?

These seem to continuously morph and change. Today I would say: to just continue exploring the infinite possibilities of sound, vision, and expression, to discover new realms of beauty and mystery, and to share the joy and benefits of doing this. To just flow, one with everything.
