“Woman in the Window” by Elizabeth Cuite “Woman in the Window” emerges like a delicate mist, its tendrils weaving through the listener’s senses. In the quietude of indie-folk, Elizabeth Cuite’s artistry blooms, inspired by the shadows of unfulfilled promises and the ache of longing. Each note is a dab of color on a canvas of emotions, and the resulting work is both haunting and exquisite.  The guitar strings resonate like whispered secrets, and Cuite’s voice, clear yet imbued with vulnerability, paints vivid scenes. The musical arrangement moves with delicate precision, honoring the essence of the story. The gentle plucking of the acoustic guitar echoes softly, akin to the sound of steps traversing an old wooden floor. Cuite’s poetic prowess writes tales of missed opportunities, of paths not taken, and of love that lingers like a half-remembered melody. Your latest track “I Adore You (feat. Carlos Ucedda)” is a brilliant blend of dream pop and synth wave with a touch of 80s nostalgia. How did you and Carlos Ucedda come up with this amazing collaboration?

Luke: well, Carlos and I have been good friends for quite some time, and I've always admired his artistic prowess. One day, inspired by his incredible talent, I approached him with the idea of creating something together. Our friendship provided a solid foundation for collaboration, and I believed that combining our skills and perspectives could lead to something truly special.
Carlos and I share a mutual passion for artistic expression, and I felt that our collaboration could bring out the best in both of us. So, I pitched the idea to him, and fortunately, he was as excited about it as I was. From there, we began brainstorming and working together to bring our creative vision to life.

Did you work together on every aspect of the song, or did you write the music and look for a singer afterwards?

Carlos: The genesis of this song actually began about a year ago when I penned down the lyrics. I had a vision for the message and emotions I wanted to convey, and I felt that expressing it through music would add a whole new dimension to the narrative. That's when I decided to share my idea with Luke.
Luke, being a talented musician, was immediately excited about the concept. We sat down, and I shared my vision with him – the story, the emotions, and the atmosphere I wanted the song to evoke. From there, Luke took the reins to bring my words to life in a completely new form, adding his musical expertise to enhance the expressiveness of the song.

How did you meet Carlos Ucedda in the first place?

Luke: Our connection with Carlos actually started through social media or some musician platform—I can't quite recall the exact details. What I do remember vividly is the warmth and openness that defines Carlos as a person. Despite our initial connection being through a shared interest in music, our friendship quickly transcended that boundary.
Carlos is an incredibly open-hearted guy, and our conversations soon delved into not just music, but also various aspects of our personal lives. It was this genuine connection on a personal level that laid the foundation for a strong and lasting friendship. We found common ground beyond the realm of music, which deepened our bond and made working together even more enjoyable.

What are some of the tools or techniques that you use to create, mix and master your music?

Luke: In my music, I heavily rely on Moog synthesizers; they've become a signature element in my sound. The ability to craft unique sounds is something I'm deeply passionate about, and I love delving into sound design to create my own sonic landscapes.
Besides the Moog gear, I'm a big fan of Arturia's products. Their tools add a distinctive flavor to my compositions, and I find myself using them extensively in my work. The range and quality of sounds they offer align well with my artistic vision.
When it comes to instrumentation, I occasionally incorporate bass and guitar into my tracks to diversify the sonic palette. It's all about finding the right balance and creating a rich, textured experience for the listener.
Now, in terms of the production process, I take on the mastering aspect myself. I lean towards a more raw sound, drawing inspiration from the late '70s to early '80s era. I believe in allowing the music to breathe, opting for less compression and more air and naturalness in the mix. It's a deliberate choice to capture the authenticity and energy reminiscent of that period.
In essence, my approach revolves around a combination of vintage synthesizers, a love for sound design, and a preference for a raw, unfiltered quality in the final mix. It's a journey of exploration and experimentation that I find both creatively fulfilling and true to the essence of the music I want to create.

I think a collaboration is always a great opportunity for both artists, as they can reach new audiences and learn from each other. Do you have a dream partner that you would love to collaborate with?

Carlos: You know, it's a tough question because there are so many incredible artists out there, and it's hard to pinpoint just one dream collaborator. I'm genuinely open to working with musicians, singers, and composers from various backgrounds because I believe collaboration brings creativity to the next level. It's about the synergy of ideas and the magic that happens when different artistic visions come together.
Right now, I'm really thrilled about my ongoing collaboration with Luke Tangerine. Our creative chemistry has been fantastic, and it's been a joy to see how our individual strengths blend into something unique. We're currently in the process of working on our next release, and I couldn't be more excited about it. If all goes well, we're aiming for an early 2024 release. It's shaping up to be something special, and I can't wait for everyone to hear it.

What are your thoughts on the role and impact of social media in the music industry?

Luke: Social media has revolutionized the music industry, providing artists with global reach, direct fan interaction, and opportunities for independent promotion. It has democratized access, facilitated collaborations, and transformed how music is discovered, shared, and consumed. However, challenges such as oversaturation and algorithm complexities persist. Overall, social media has become an essential tool for artists to connect with audiences, shape their brand, and navigate the evolving landscape of the music business. Also social media opens new possibilities for indie musicians to collaborate with each other.

Looking back at 2023, what was the highlight of your year?

Luke: Without a doubt, the highlight of my year has been my engagement on social media. Exploring various platforms has opened up a whole new world for me, allowing me to connect with some truly fantastic musicians. The ability to engage with and discover the work of other artists has been both inspiring and eye-opening.
In particular, I must say that my collaboration with Carlos stands out as another significant highlight.
