‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

A Dark and Sinister Journey into Club Monroe: ‘Blood And Leather Gloves’ by Low Monroe

Low Monroe

‘Blood And Leather Gloves’ by Low Monroe

Following two sinister releases, Australian artist Low Monroe (also known as Mark Sergi) has produced an impeccable debut in his first EP release. ‘Club Monroe’, the introductory song, transports us to a gloomy nightclub, where admission requires a toll of blood and agony. Angels acting as doorkeepers, and the muteness of the pariahs penetrate the track, along with a post-punk rhythm with subtle industrial shades.
Then comes ‘Two-Day Crime Scene’, that draws loosely on Wim Wenders’s 1984 masterpiece, Paris, Texas. The previously released tracks ‘Second Try Theme’ and its continuation ‘Velvet Cell’ intensify the suspense in this performance, which culminates in a dramatic peak with ‘The Perfect Citizen’.
It would be unwise to single out one song as exceptional, as they are all captivating and spellbinding. The common theme that runs through the listening experience is ingenious and it would be almost blasphemous not to consume all five at once. With ‘Blood And Leather Gloves’ Low Monroe delivers a remarkable debut. Dark post punk with a hint of gothic ferocity, best savored at night! We adore it!

‘Blood And Leather Gloves’ by Low Monroe [DE]

We love it!
