A Dark Synth-Pop Trio from Norway that Shines Bright: ‘Remains Unsaid’ by The Holy Mountain
‘Remains Unsaid’ by The Holy Mountain
Norway is, as is well known, a country rich in many respects, not only in its nature and culture, but also in its music, which enjoys universal acclaim. The indie scene fortunately thrives in every country. A prime example of this is undoubtedly The Holy Mountain, who have recently released their single ‘Remains Unsaid’.
It is the precursor of their forthcoming EP ‘They Are Asleep’, as well as a dark synth-pop production by the trio, which is animated by the vocals of Catharina Janner Røed, endowed with an exquisite aesthetic by Andreas Angell and polished by Aleksander Tidemann. All three impart this musical gem with the right lustre, so that it may shine for ever.
The song explores lyrically a relationship that is approaching its demise, in which turmoil of all sorts is a daily occurrence, the ultimate storm of the season, as it were. Emotions such as longing, shock, serenity or freedom are intensified by the wonderfully dark and hypnotic atmosphere. One surrenders oneself, falls interminably and almost relishes the darkness that is implied. ‘Remains Unsaid’ does not merely glimmer in the darkness; it also shows us the way.
