This EP signifies a departure from the classic SynthPop and Synthwave of the '80s, setting these genres aside to introduce a palette of fresh and innovative soundscapes. With a blend of cinematic soundtracks and study beats, Luke Tangerine showcases his versatility.
The drum arrangements, in particular, reveal a previously unknown facet of his musical creativity.The opening title, “Metal Fatigue,” starts with characteristic Tangerine sounds but shifts to a new musical direction midway. The harmonic echoes of “Lullaby” by The Cure evoke a longing expectation for Robert Smith’s contribution. “Subway Romance” decisively cuts all ties to SynthPop/Wave, unfolding into an eloquent jazz experience where the drums, once again, take center stage and command attention. The title track, “Urban Echoes,” nearly assumes a rock-like character with its diverse sounds and groove. The 4-track EP’s crowning conclusion is “Letter from a Non-Existent City,” a piece that celebrates the innovative spirit of the Frankfurt artist in a relaxed fashion.
As Luke Tangerine seamlessly transitions across musical terrains without sacrificing perfection, I find myself at the beginning of the EP once more, listening anew, leaning back, and savoring the gentle sweep of the brush across the snare.

Luke Tangerine, Virtuose und Tüftler der Klangkunst, kehrt mit seiner neuesten EP “Urban Echoes” zurück. Die EP markiert eine Abkehr vom klassischen SynthPop und Synthwave der 80er Jahre, indem sie diese Genres beiseitelegt und stattdessen eine Palette an frischen und innovativen Klanglandschaften einführt. Mit einer Mischung aus cinematischem Soundtrack und Studybeats demonstriert Luke Tangerine seine Vielseitigkeit. Insbesondere die Drum-arrangements offenbaren eine bisher ungekannte Facette seines musikalischen Schaffens.
Der Eröffnungstitel “Metal Fatigue” beginnt zunächst mit charakteristischen Tangerine-Klängen, nimmt jedoch ab der Mitte eine neue musikalische Richtung an. Während Luke Tangerine das musikalische Terrain nahtlos und ohne Einbußen an Perfektion wechselt, finde ich mich bereits wieder am Anfang der EP, lausche erneut, lehne mich zurück und genieße, wie der Besen sanft über die Snare streicht.
