‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

California Calls: Luke Tangerine and Matthew Mirliani’s New Track Weaves '80s Nostalgia with Dreamy Pop

‘California’ by Luke Tangerine & Matthew Mirliani

Those who were thrilled by ‘Safe’ will, I believe, be even more captivated by the new release. Luke Tangerine and Matthew Mirliani have once again combined their talents to release a new song titled ‘California.’ While ‘Safe’ was firmly rooted in the electro-synth-pop of the '80s and was rather introverted, the new release impresses with an open arrangement that breathes a hint of dream pop.
These enchanting, dreamy pop vibes especially benefit Matthew Mirliani. With his art of storytelling, he skillfully leverages Luke’s sonic diversity and swings in the same rhythm, creating a creative amplitude that will electrify any '80s fan. It is also his vocal performance, reminiscent of Neil Tennant, that allows this harmony to unfold.
I am equally thrilled by the individual nostalgic sounds featured in this piece, such as at 2 minutes and 10 seconds, where I am sonically reminded of ‘Time after Time.’ However, that is just one of the many golden threads woven throughout this song. Ultimately, it’s the complete package that crafts an elegant '80s pop vibe.
Luke Tangerine and Matthew Mirliani have imprinted their distinctive mark on this work, and as I bid farewell, I’m stepping into the convertible, next stop: ‘California’.

‘California’ by Luke Tangerine & Matthew Mirliani [DE]

Time after Time’ erinnert fühle.
