Surrender to the Allure: “Given to me (Video)” by SWiiMS

“Given to me (Video)” by SWiiMS

A four-member rock band from Toronto, Canada, dedicated to Dream Pop, Brit Rock, and Shoegaze, is available for our admiration today. Guitarist Colin Thompson initiated the project. It was completed with singer/guitarist Mai Diaz Langou, drummer Craig and bassist Cian O’Ruanaidh, and was named SWiiMS. 
With their debut EP “Through Waves,” they opened many opportunities in 2020 and solidified their status as a creative force in the scene. Finally, in November of last year, their first album “Into The Blue Night” was released. Once again, they succeeded in creating a sonic construct. Their imaginative mix blends elements of nostalgia with contemporary innovation, presenting it as a cohesive work. “All I die for” was the first excerpt from the album and offered insight into its creative core, which convinces especially with its lyrical depth and harmonic implementation. By addressing the complexity of relationships and the resulting emotions, they imprint it with their unique style, pushing their boundaries, taking the extra step, and thus bringing the listener into their orbit. 

Their latest video for “Given to me” is also endowed with this attraction. It is a song that illuminates the devotion and letting go at the beginning of a relationship. The melody perfectly represents the slow melting away, captivating us from the start and refusing to let go. When Mai Diaz Langou’s vocals enter, the charm is irresistible. We lose ourselves in the infinite space and discover harmony in the universe. 
The video emphasizes these burgeoning emotions with its visual stimuli and immediately captivates us. Detached and floating, we are drawn into the narrative’s flow. 3 minutes and 17 seconds, which could have easily lasted 5 minutes or longer, offer perfect Dream Pop, confirming what the band has always known: without SWiiMS, the Dream Pop/Shoegaze world is only half as beautiful. Ultimately, all that needs to be said is this: surrender to the allure; ‘Given to me’ has already earned its place as a genre classic.

Eine 4-köpfige Rockband aus Toronto, Kanada, die sich dem Dream Pop, Brit Rock und Shoegaze verschrieben hat, kann heute bei uns bewundert werden. Gitarrist Colin Thompson initiierte das Projekt, das mit Sängerin/Gitarristin Mai Diaz Langou, Drummer Craig und dem Bassisten Cian O’Ruanaidh vervollständigt wurde und den Namen SWiiMS erhielt. 
Mit ihrer Debüt-EP “Through Waves” stießen sie bereits 2020 viele Türen auf und festigten ihren Status als kreative Kraft in der Szene. Schließlich erschien im November des letzten Jahres ihr erstes Album “Into The Blue Night”. Erneut gelang es ihnen, durch ihre ideenreiche Mischung ein sonisches Konstrukt zu schaffen, in dem Elemente der Nostalgie auf zeitgenössische Innovation treffen, und es als homogenes Werk zu präsentieren. 
“All I die for” war der erste Auszug aus dem Longplayer und gewährte einen Einblick in seinen kreativen Kern, der vor allem durch seinen lyrischen Tiefgang und seine harmonische Umsetzung überzeugt. Indem sie die Komplexität von Beziehungen und die daraus resultierenden Emotionen thematisieren, greifen sie ein stets aktuelles Thema auf und versehen es mit ihrer Marke, indem sie ihre Grenzen ausloten, den extra Schritt machen und so den Hörer in ihre Umlaufbahn bringen. 

Auch ihr neuestes Video zu “Given to me” ist mit dieser Anziehungskraft ausgestattet. Es handelt sich um einen Song, der die Hingabe und das Loslassen zu Beginn einer Beziehung beleuchtet. Eine Melodie, die dem langsamen Dahinschmelzen nicht besser gerecht werden könnte, holt uns zu Beginn ab und lässt uns auch nicht mehr los. Spätestens ab dem Einsatz der Vocals, sprich der gesanglichen Performance von Mai Diaz Langou, kann man sich dem Charme nicht mehr entziehen. Man verliert sich im Raum der Unendlichkeit und findet Harmonie im Universum. 
Das Video unterstreicht mit seinen visuellen Anreizen diese aufkeimenden Emotionen und holt uns sofort ab. Losgelöst und schwebend verfolgen wir den Verlauf der Geschichte. 3 Minuten und 17 Sekunden, die auch gerne 5 Minuten oder länger hätten dauern können, bieten perfekten Dream Pop, der das bestätigt, was die Band schon immer gewusst hat: Ohne SWiiMS ist die Dream Pop/Shoegaze Welt nur halb so schön. Am Ende bleibt nur zu sagen: Widersetzt euch nicht der Anziehungskraft; “Given to me” darf bereits jetzt als Genreklassiker gefeiert werden.
