‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

An Auditory Quest for Identity and Truth: “The Chosen Few” by Me & Melancholy

“The Chosen Few” by Me & Melancholy

The scope for interpretation is, as always, broad, reflecting the complexity of human existence, which is also mirrored in the musical staging of the Dark Electro genre. Me & Melancholy captivate with “The Chosen Few,” a release that occurred a few days ago.
In “The Chosen Few,” the artist shapes an allegory of the human condition, grappling with themes of self-perception and societal perception. It’s a relentless quest for personal truth and identity, which are not always easy to find. Moments of revelation and understanding, however, are fleeting and reserved only for “the chosen few,” akin to an elite group with access to knowledge or enlightenment denied to others. There’s also criticism of society, which tends to make quick judgments and stigmatize people without knowing their personal circumstances or the reasons behind their actions.
Musically, the synth is cranked up, delivering an entry reminiscent of Depeche Mode in the late '80s. The melody, almost assigned to the EBM genre, picks up speed to merge with the powerful rhythm and ignite a dark electro symphony.
Harmonic vocals sway in this sonic scenario, interwoven with metaphors, providing the initially mentioned room for interpretation. As the cherry on top, there’s a fitting black-and-white video that enhances and skillfully captures the overall picture.
“The Chosen Few” by Me & Melancholy is once again an auditory and lyrical odyssey through the abstract diversity of human beings and should not be missing from any electro playlist!
