‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

Inspired by the 80s!

Three unique interpretations of the iconic '80s!

Long ago, yet enduringly, the '80s shaped the musical landscape. It was vibrant, flamboyant, and a gateway to new sonic realms. Today, we not only reminisce but also focus on artists who feel particularly at home during that decade. They absorb the essence of that era and infuse it with unique grandeur through their music. And yes, I too succumbed to this music – New Wave, New Romantics, SynthPop, Post-Punk, and numerous other genres from that decade.

Our first artist hails from London and is none other than Mayah Camara. She has just released her new album, ‘Here I Am,’ created in collaboration with Sellorekt / LA Dreams. The 17 songs on this album were produced in the classic '80s style, masterfully capturing the brilliance of that time. From the opening notes, it transports us back, evoking memories (if you have them). The fusion of different genres makes this work truly special. Whether it’s New Wave or Synthpop, there’s something for every '80s fan. A standout track is ‘Message in a Bottle,’ blending Synthpop with Retrowave, characterized by its distinctive sound and impressive vocals. Thematically, it revolves around feelings of abandonment. Our recommendation: Definitely give it a listen and explore more of ‘Here I Am’ if you enjoy it.

Rogue FX is far from an unknown entity. His latest release, ‘Shot In The Dark,’ is a Synthpop gem where he skillfully collaborates with Aisle 9. The guitar work is absolutely incredible and really takes this exceptional track to another level! Lyrically, it delves into inner conflicts, risk-taking, and the pursuit of fulfillment. ‘Shot In The Dark’ seamlessly continues his previous releases, reviving Andrew Wood’s 80s passion in 2024.

Lastly, let’s finish our short '80s tour with Rimini Expresso, a previously unfamiliar ensemble (to me). Antonio Peña and Rocco Telefax from Finland delve into the genre of Italo Disco, adding a touch of Synthwave. Their song, ‘Made In USSR,’ acquires a slightly darker hue through its lyrics, unusual for the genre at the time but also asserting its uniqueness. Musically, they stay very close to the style mentioned earlier. As an '80s enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed when you listen to Rimini Expresso.

Three artists, three interpretations of the '80s, each distinct. Mayah Camara (ft. Sellorekt / LA Dreams), Rogue FX (ft. Aisle 9), and Rimini Expresso once again transform the colorful past into audible excellence!
