‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

New Nostalgia meets Noir Art-Pop: "Seedy Grammar" by Frank Joshua

"Seedy Grammar" by Frank Joshua

The story of a man who outwardly displays a stable and unshakeable personality, yet is inwardly plagued by fear and anger, presents a protagonist who, despite his apparent strength and infallibility, fails to recognize the true value of what he possesses.
Frank Joshua explores the inner turmoil of this protagonist, who finds himself in a conflict without a clear goal, prompting self-reflection. His latest work, “Seedy Grammar,” demonstrates that we often experience inner conflicts without manifesting them outwardly. Although we find satisfaction in specific activities, we often miss the essential aspects of life, as true happiness is not generated by external recognition. A constant struggle can be deemed pointless if the essential has already been attained. True fulfillment and understanding must arise from within, not from external sources.
With “Seedy Grammar,” Frank Joshua not only offers a preview of the upcoming album but also a musical reorientation that, I must say, is exceptionally well-executed. The musical presentation is somewhat darker, with a more retro-inspired style, without appearing outdated. Instead, new nostalgia meets elegant noir art-pop, which not only excites me but also leaves me wanting more.
Frank Joshua’s artistic output is impressively diverse and consistently refreshing. “Seedy Grammar” takes us on a journey through a labyrinth of emotions and thoughts, where one can lose oneself and simultaneously find oneself.
