‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

“Casualty” by Straight Razor

“Casualty” by Straight Razor

Omar Doom, born Omar Makhdomi, is a musician and actor. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design, he moved to Los Angeles, where he formed a fateful friendship with Quentin Tarantino. Recognising Omar’s potential, Tarantino cast him in the films “Death Proof” and “Inglourious Basterds”. Despite his success in film, music has always remained his true passion.
In one of his latest works, “Casualty”, released under the name Straight Razors, Omar Doom explores the darker aspects of life. The song describes how people learn to conform to the unspoken rules and expectations of society over time. In doing so, they often lose a part of their individuality and freedom, becoming “casualties” of societal norms and pressures. “Casualty” addresses the challenge of staying authentic while bending to external influences.
Musically, the song blends EBM with Dark Wave and is spiced with a touch of Underground Industrial. Omar's vocal performance imbues the composition with a pensive and introspective quality, evoking a sense of impending downfall.
The accompanying music video, featuring a shapeshifter played by Vilena Poterba, enhances the dark and mysterious atmosphere. She collects souls by assuming the identities of her latest victims to achieve her goals. “Casualty” is an evocative work that transports listeners into a world of darkness and reflection.
And so we march, step by step, all in unison, all in line. Yet in the silence of this synchrony lies a deep sadness, the echo of lost dreams. Break free, dance out of line, be different, be free. Let your hearts set the rhythm and your souls guide the way, even if the path is tinged with melancholy. “Casualty” is now available, and we eagerly await the album!
