‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

#OUTNOW: “Synthedelic (Album)” by Luke Tangerine, Robson Darker

“Synthedelic” by Luke Tangerine, Robson Darker

With the release of “Synthedelic,” Luke Tangerine and Robson Darker have crafted a musical gem that transcends mere collaboration. This album is a wild, intoxicating journey through musical influences and ideas. Tangerine and Darker have incorporated a select group of guest musicians, including Andrea Gellsinger, Kate Pending, and NDGE, adding extra nuances and complexity to the project
“Synthedelic” is an acoustic voyage that transports the listener into a lived creative dimension. The musical influences blend with a modern aesthetic, creating a soundscape that is both familiar and fresh. Luke and Robson have managed to immortalise their musical identity in each track while simultaneously infusing innovative elements and their personal perspective. This album can also be seen as a homage to the past and a redefinition of the familiar. It is a breathtaking fusion of Post-Punk, New Wave, and Synthwave, showcasing the artistic talent of the two musicians.
“Synthedelic” shimmers not only in the hues of Kate Bush, Kraftwerk, or Salt-N-Pepa but also in its own unique colours
The opener “Magic Moment” already combines the timeless Post-Punk style with an elegant, dark tonality. “Toy” captivates with its fascinating mix of synth melodies, powerful vocals, and NDGE’s signature guitar riffs. “Allein” impresses with its open yet dark atmosphere and Kate Pending’s performance, which gives the song just the twist it needs.
With “Neonlicht,” one of my favourites, you wake up in a Friday night of the 80s. “In den Tiefen der Nacht” ends this neon-lit night with a passionate blend of Post-Punk and Dark Wave.  Reminiscent of Kraftwerk, “Lights Out” stands opposite the unplugged version of “Magic Moment,” in which Paul! also shines, giving the song a new coat of paint. “To Be Continued” strongly reminds me of the usual end credits melodies of old TV series, giving us a final piece of nostalgia as a farewell.
In conclusion, “Synthedelic” is a masterful blend of past and present, showcasing the unique talents of Luke Tangerine and Robson Darker. It’s an album that not only pays homage to musical influences but also pushes the boundaries of genre, making it a must-listen for any music enthusiast.
