‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

‘Swamp Sandwich (EP)’ by the Swamp Music Players

Swamp Sandwich (EP)’ by the Swamp Music Players

We drove for a long time, but eventually, a dusty road led us to a small, rustic studio on the outskirts of the city, on the edge of nowhere. Outside was an old VW bus, plastered with colourful retro stickers, telling tales of past adventures.
Inside the studio, the scent of coffee, vinyl records, and whatever else you can think of mingle in a cloud of creativity. Inspired by retro pop culture and fuelled by a love of rock 'n' roll, a mix of swamp rock/blues and cosmic Americana thickens the atmosphere.
We have arrived to enjoy ‘Swamp Sandwich’ by the Swamp Music Players. We dive in and immediately enter their world with ‘Mikayla ft. Steve Greene.’ A world of a toxic relationship and the resulting emotional and psychological strain. Through haunting imagery and probing questions, the cyclical nature of such a relationship is illuminated—a relationship dominated by abuse and insecurity. The song addresses the need to break out of these destructive patterns, to find personal freedom and emotional healing.
‘Nuclear Bogeyman,’ on the other hand, warns of the destructive power of nuclear weapons, the indifference to their moral responsibility, and shows how dangerous and apocalyptic the use of such technology can be if used without ethical concerns. Two songs that couldn't be more different and yet share a common musical fingerprint in the form of the Swamp Music Players.
We definitely recommend ‘Swamp Sandwich,’ not only to discover something new but also because it contains two more great songs: ‘Swamp Wizard’ and ‘Missouri ft. Jon Dowdall.’
